The Huns secure PGL Astana 2026 spot through dominant Asian qualifier run

The Mongolian squad The Huns have officially qualified for PGL Astana 2026 after a convincing victory in the Asia Closed Qualifier, marking one of the most significant achievements in the team’s history so far. Their qualification came after a decisive 3–0 sweep over DEPO in the grand final, confirming them as the region’s representative at the upcoming international event.

The qualifier itself featured only three teams and offered a single coveted slot at the main event. Alongside The Huns and DEPO, Australia’s Ground Zero also participated, but it was the Mongolian side that ultimately emerged on top, finishing first and securing direct qualification.

Clean sweep in the final

The grand final followed a best-of-five format, but The Huns left no room for a comeback. They closed the series in just three maps — Mirage, Inferno, and Dust2 — winning each convincingly. On Mirage, they opened the series with a 13–9 win, followed by a dominant 13–4 performance on Inferno. They sealed the qualification with another 13–9 victory on Dust2.

Across the series, multiple players stepped up for The Huns, showcasing strong individual performances and consistent team coordination. Standout contributions from players like xerolte and controlez helped maintain control throughout the match, particularly on Inferno where the team demonstrated overwhelming dominance.

Road through the qualifier

The Asia Closed Qualifier brought together winners from sub-regional stages, including East Asia, West Asia, and Oceania. The Huns entered the event as representatives from East Asia and were considered one of the stronger contenders based on recent form and ranking advantages.

Their path to qualification highlights the growing strength of Mongolian Counter-Strike. Over the past few years, teams from the region have steadily improved their international competitiveness, and The Huns’ success further reinforces this upward trend.

PGL Astana context

PGL Astana continues to be one of the key tournaments on the Counter-Strike calendar, featuring 16 teams and a prize pool historically reaching over $1 million. The event gathers a mix of invited teams and qualifier winners from different regions, giving emerging squads like The Huns an opportunity to compete against top-tier international opposition.

The 2026 edition will once again serve as an important stage for both established organizations and rising teams. For The Huns, qualification represents not only a milestone but also a chance to test themselves against elite competition and gain valuable experience on a bigger stage.

Regional significance

The victory over DEPO — a team featuring players from Central Asia — also underlines The Huns’ dominance within the broader Asian region. Their undefeated run in the final and strong map control suggest that they are currently among the most promising teams outside the traditional powerhouse regions of Europe and North America.

With their ticket to Astana secured, attention now turns to how The Huns will perform against world-class opposition. While they enter the tournament as underdogs, their recent form and structured gameplay indicate that they could pose a threat to more established teams.
