The MongolZ Refreshed and Recharged Ahead of Tougher PGL Astana Tests, Says cobrazera
After surviving a difficult opening match at PGL Astana 2026, Anarbileg Uuganbayar believes The MongolZ are only going to improve as the tournament progresses.
The Mongolian squad returned to official competition after nearly a month away from tournaments and looked rusty early in their opening series against magic. The team fell behind 3-10 before eventually recovering and closing out the match after four overtimes, narrowly avoiding six map points in the process.
Speaking after the victory, cobrazera admitted the extended break affected the team’s rhythm at the start of the event, but he emphasized that the time away from competition helped the roster mentally reset and strengthen relationships outside the server.
According to the 20-year-old player, the team used the break to recover physically, deal with personal matters, and recharge following a demanding stretch of tier-one events earlier this season. The squad only resumed practice around 10 days before Astana, scrimming primarily against Asian opposition while bootcamping in Mongolia.
Despite acknowledging that practicing against Asian teams felt “strange” because of stylistic differences, cobrazera said the break ultimately benefited the lineup. He explained that the players became closer outside the game while also discussing major gameplay adjustments internally.
The MongolZ are now focusing on reducing mistakes and refining their overall structure, with cobrazera noting that the roster is trying to play differently compared to previous events. He also highlighted the return of coach Erdenedalai Bayanbat, saying the team feels “full” again with him back behind the players after he previously missed several tournaments.
The interview comes after a turbulent but promising first few months for the new-look MongolZ lineup. Since joining the organization from The Huns at the end of 2025, cobrazera has gradually adapted to tier-one Counter-Strike while helping the team secure several notable results in 2026.
Among the squad’s biggest achievements this year was a strong run at PGL Bucharest 2026, where The MongolZ reached the semi-finals before defeating 3DMAX to secure third place. The team also impressed earlier in the season by beating Spirit at BLAST Open Rotterdam and reaching playoffs at PGL Cluj-Napoca.
However, inconsistency has remained an issue. The MongolZ suffered disappointing exits at several recent events, including losses to Vitality, MOUZ, and FUT during important playoff matches. cobrazera admitted the squad’s level has fluctuated compared to the form they showed last year, but he remains confident the current version of the team is in a better place mentally and strategically after the long pause.
“I think we will do better because we rested and we talked to each other,” cobrazera said. “We rested and we have so much energy, so we will do better from before, from Bucharest.”
The timing of the break may prove important because the competition at Astana is only becoming more difficult. Following their opening win, The MongolZ are set to face Team Spirit in one of the headline matches of day two at the event.
The matchup represents another major test for a roster still adapting to life at the highest level of Counter-Strike. cobrazera admitted matches against elite teams such as Spirit and Team Falcons will not be easy, but stressed that The MongolZ are determined to compete with the world’s best as they continue developing their new system and chemistry.
