Aurora Defeat The MongolZ to Reach BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026 Semi-Finals

Aurora secured a long-awaited victory over The MongolZ, defeating the Asian squad 2–0 in the quarter-finals of the BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026 and advancing to the semi-finals. This result not only kept Aurora’s playoff run alive, but also ended a frustrating losing streak in the head-to-head rivalry between the two teams. According to match data, Aurora had previously lost multiple consecutive series to The MongolZ, making this win particularly significant from both a competitive and psychological standpoint.

The series was played as a best-of-three and concluded in just two maps, with Aurora showing a noticeably improved level of structure and confidence. On Inferno, the opening map, both teams started evenly and reached halftime tied at 6–6. However, the second half turned into a one-sided affair: Aurora produced a flawless defensive performance on the CT side, winning seven rounds in a row to close the map 13–6. This dominant stretch proved to be the turning point of the entire match, as The MongolZ were unable to recover once momentum shifted.

Mirage followed a similar pattern in terms of control, although the flow of the game differed slightly. Aurora began strongly on the T side, building a convincing early lead of 7–1. While The MongolZ attempted to respond and showed some resilience later in the map, the early deficit was too large to overcome. Aurora maintained composure and closed out Mirage 13–9, completing a clean 2–0 sweep and securing their place in the semi-finals.

Individually, Aurora’s key players delivered when it mattered most. Ismailcan Dörtkardeş, Özgür Eker, and Ali Haydar Yalçın were instrumental in the victory. XANTARES and woxic played a crucial role in locking down Inferno’s CT side, while Wicadia stood out on Mirage with impactful multi-kill rounds that helped secure early control. Overall, Aurora’s individuals combined strong mechanics with disciplined teamplay, a contrast to some of their previous inconsistent showings.

For The MongolZ, the loss marked the end of an otherwise impressive run at the event. Prior to the quarter-final, the team had recorded notable victories against top-tier opponents such as MOUZ, Liquid, and Spirit, demonstrating their continued rise in the international Counter-Strike scene. Despite that momentum, they struggled to adapt during key moments in this series. Reports indicate that the absence of their coach during the match may have affected their mid-game decision-making, as the team lacked timely tactical adjustments and did not fully capitalize on comeback opportunities.

This result continues a broader narrative in the rivalry between the two teams. The MongolZ had previously held a clear edge, including multiple wins across 2024 and 2025 events, and even a dominant victory over Aurora in a major final during 2025.  Aurora’s win in Rotterdam therefore represents a meaningful shift, suggesting they may finally be closing the gap against one of the most dangerous emerging teams outside Europe.

Looking ahead, Aurora will face Team Vitality in the semi-finals — a challenging matchup given that they have yet to defeat the French powerhouse in 2026. Their improved form in Rotterdam, however, indicates they could be a more competitive opponent than in previous encounters.

Meanwhile, The MongolZ exit the tournament in 5th–6th place, reinforcing their status as consistent contenders at top-tier events. Their performance in Rotterdam, despite the quarter-final loss, highlights both their potential and the areas that still require refinement — particularly in-game adaptability under pressure. The team is expected to regroup quickly, with upcoming appearances at future international events already on the horizon.

In summary, Aurora’s victory was not just a routine playoff win. It was a statement result that broke a negative streak, showcased improved tactical cohesion, and set the stage for a high-stakes semi-final clash.
