YEKINDAR Says FURIA “Lost Their Identity” Before Astana Revival

HLTV reported that YEKINDAR believes FURIA temporarily “lost their identity” while trying to emulate the style of elite teams like Vitality, but the squad is now rediscovering its own approach after a difficult stretch of results.

The Latvian rifler spoke after FURIA secured convincing victories over Monte and HEROIC at PGL Astana 2026, putting the team one win away from a playoff berth and giving Kazakh AWPer molodoy a chance to compete in front of a home crowd.

According to YEKINDAR, FURIA’s poor showing at BLAST Rivals Fort Worth 2026 became a major turning point for the roster. The Brazilian organization exited the event in last place, and the disappointing campaign forced the players to reassess how they wanted to approach the game moving forward.

The 26-year-old explained that FURIA had started drifting away from the aggressive and instinctive style that historically defined the organization. He admitted the team sometimes looked at how Vitality were dominating opponents and wondered if they should attempt to play the same structured system, but eventually realized the comparison was flawed because the two lineups are built around very different player profiles.

YEKINDAR described the period as containing “burning the kitchen moments,” suggesting the team experimented heavily while searching for solutions. However, he stressed that recent practice and official matches have helped FURIA refocus on their own strengths rather than trying to mirror another top squad’s blueprint.

The interview comes during an important transition period for FURIA. The organization recently brought in YEKINDAR as a stand-in after benching skullz, while legendary in-game leader FalleN has also shifted roles inside the server as the team searches for a more balanced structure.

Since YEKINDAR’s arrival, FURIA have shown flashes of the aggressive Counter-Strike that once made them one of the most feared teams in the world. Earlier tournament performances already hinted at improvement, including deeper playoff runs and stronger results against elite opposition throughout 2025 and early 2026.

Their win over HEROIC in Astana particularly showcased that renewed confidence. YEKINDAR delivered one of his strongest performances since joining the roster, finishing the series as the highest-rated player while helping FURIA dominate the server with relentless pace and proactive openings.

The team’s recovery is especially significant given the instability surrounding several top organizations ahead of the summer season. Recent roster moves involving teams such as Falcons and MOUZ have intensified competition near the top of the rankings, making consistency increasingly valuable heading toward the second half of the year.

FURIA now appear determined to rebuild their identity around confident individual play, faster decision-making, and a system tailored to their own roster strengths rather than external comparisons. For YEKINDAR, that process may ultimately be more important than immediate results, because rediscovering the team’s authentic style could determine whether this new-look international FURIA becomes a genuine title contender later in the season.
