Spirit’s Stand-In Coach S0tF1k Unsure About Long-Term Future With Main Roster After Astana

Dmitry Forostyanko has admitted that his long-term future with Team Spirit remains uncertain, with a final decision expected only after the conclusion of PGL Astana 2026.

The 31-year-old coach stepped into Spirit’s main lineup setup after longtime head coach Sergey Shavaev was forced to miss both IEM Rio 2026 and PGL Astana due to health-related issues. Since then, Spirit have shown noticeable improvement, reaching the grand final in Rio before continuing their strong run in Astana.

Speaking about the possibility of remaining with the main squad permanently, S0tF1k avoided making definitive statements and explained that discussions about his role will only happen once Spirit’s Astana campaign is over. The former Spirit player and longtime academy coach emphasized that the current priority is helping the team succeed at the tournament rather than focusing on roster decisions.

Spirit’s recent resurgence has fueled speculation about potential changes within the organization’s coaching structure. The team struggled for consistency earlier in 2026 and failed to win a title despite several deep playoff runs. Their best result before Astana came at IEM Rio, where they reached the final shortly after S0tF1k temporarily joined the main roster staff.

Since taking over, S0tF1k has attempted to implement tactical adjustments while also giving players more freedom inside the server. Andrey Tatarinovich recently explained that the stand-in coach was trying to correct “important mistakes” in Spirit’s system while loosening some of the team’s structure to help individuals play more comfortably.

The temporary reunion has also reunited S0tF1k with several players he previously coached in Spirit Academy. He described the experience as “coming home,” highlighting the close relationship he built with many of the organization’s rising stars during their developmental years.

S0tF1k has become one of the most influential figures in Spirit’s academy pipeline over the past several years. He played a major role in developing talents such as Danil Kryshkovets and highly rated prospect Maksim Lukin, who previously praised the coach for his individual approach and deep understanding of player development.

Spirit’s performances at Astana have only intensified the conversation around the coaching situation. The CIS squad secured a convincing playoff victory over G2 Esports to reach the semi-finals, continuing the upward trend that began after hally stepped away from the active roster.

Although no permanent decision has been announced, the organization now faces an increasingly difficult choice if Spirit continue producing strong results under S0tF1k’s leadership. For now, however, both the coach and the team remain fully focused on finishing their Astana run before discussing what comes next.
