MOUZ survive triple-overtime scare against B8 to reach CAC 2026 semi-finals

MOUZ secured their place in the semi-finals of the CS Asia Championships 2026 after defeating B8 2-0 in one of the tournament’s most intense playoff series so far. While the scoreline suggested a comfortable victory on paper, the second map turned into a marathon battle that required three overtimes before the European squad could finally close the series.

The series began with MOUZ looking firmly in control. Their defensive setups repeatedly shut down B8’s attacks, allowing them to recover from an early deficit on Overpass and convert the opener 13-8. The team’s defensive identity under the new roster continued to stand out, with Dorian 'xertioN' Berman once again acting as the centerpiece of the CT side. HLTV noted that the Israeli rifler produced another elite defensive showing, continuing the strong form that has defined MOUZ’s early months in the new era.

Ancient, however, nearly became a disaster for MOUZ. After storming to a 9-3 lead, Dennis “sycrone” Nielsen’s side appeared on course for a straightforward semi-final qualification. Instead, B8 mounted a huge comeback led by Andrii 'npl' Kukharskyi, whose clutch plays completely shifted the momentum of the game. His crucial 1v3 late in the first half gave B8 renewed belief, and a pistol-round quad-kill helped launch a dominant defensive stretch that dragged the map into overtime.

The match then evolved into a clutch-heavy battle of nerves. Across the three overtime periods, both teams traded momentum repeatedly, but it was Justinas 'jL' Lekavicius who ultimately became the difference-maker. The Lithuanian star delivered four separate clutches during the map, matching the entire B8 roster by himself in that category. Several of those rounds came on the T side, where MOUZ struggled to break through B8’s setups and looked increasingly uncomfortable in mid-round situations.

After the match, jL admitted that the pressure inside the server was enormous and that losing the map after such a large lead would have been painful. He highlighted the team’s mental resilience as one of the key reasons they managed to survive the comeback attempt.

The series also provided encouraging signs for MOUZ beyond the victory itself. One of the biggest talking points surrounding the roster since its formation has been whether the team can consistently find secondary firepower around xertioN. At CAC 2026, Adrian 'xelex' Vincze has shown visible improvement, posting stronger fragging numbers and helping stabilize the team during difficult stretches. His impact alongside xertioN on the CT side was a major factor in MOUZ surviving the Ancient thriller.

Despite reaching the semi-finals, the match exposed several weaknesses that MOUZ will need to address quickly ahead of their upcoming showdown against Falcons. Their T side on Ancient repeatedly stalled, defaults lacked conviction, and several late-round calls appeared desperate as the pressure mounted. HLTV specifically pointed to one late B rush attempt as evidence that the in-game plan had started to collapse under B8’s defensive pressure.

The semi-final against Falcons now becomes one of the biggest tests of MOUZ’s rebuilt roster so far. The team has already experienced both impressive highs and painful setbacks in recent months. Earlier in the year they recorded notable victories over elite opposition, including a strong 2-0 win against Natus Vincere at PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026, showing the roster’s potential against tier-one competition.

At the same time, MOUZ have also shown inconsistency during several major events. Just days before CAC, they suffered a crushing defeat to Spirit in the PGL Astana semi-finals, where Danil “donk” Kryshkovets and company completely shut down their offense.

Their path through CAC has also been far from smooth. The European squad opened the tournament with a surprising loss to TYLOO before fighting through the lower bracket, including a hard-fought victory against NRG to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Now, after surviving one of the wildest maps of the tournament, MOUZ remain in contention for the title — but their dramatic series against B8 demonstrated that the team still has clear issues to solve if they want to overcome Falcons and lift the trophy in Shanghai.
