MIBR survive magic scare to stay alive at StarSeries Fall

MIBR have kept their StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026 run alive after defeating magic 2-1 in the lower bracket, taking Ancient 13-8 and Inferno 13-8 around a 13-11 loss on Mirage.

The Brazilian side entered the series after a 1-2 defeat to FURIA in the upper-bracket quarterfinals, while magic had been swept 0-2 by Vitality. The matchup was further complicated by magic playing without Andrey "AW" Anisimov, whose visa issues forced coach Danila "eksiver" Yurkov into the lineup. eksiver had only six HLTV-recorded maps before the event, with his last coming in March 2025.

MIBR ultimately did what their tournament position demanded, but the series was considerably more competitive than the personnel situation suggested. magic took a map and pushed the Brazilians deep into the third before MIBR's greater firepower and a dominant Inferno closed the series.

insani sets the tone as MIBR control Ancient

Ancient was the clearest indication of how MIBR wanted to play the series.

The Brazilians opened with an 8-4 half and continued to control the map after the switch, eventually closing it 13-8. MIBR won 14 of the 20 opening duels on the map, a huge advantage that repeatedly gave them control of the round before magic could establish its setups.

Felipe "insani" Yuji was the driving force behind the opening map. He produced 28 kills, 139.8 ADR and a 1.94 rating, while also recording eight opening kills. His performance was particularly damaging because magic struggled to recover after losing the first engagement.

Abdurakhim "mo0N" Issa was the only magic player consistently able to answer, but his 1.39 rating was not enough to compensate for the gap elsewhere. MIBR's other core pieces also contributed: Tomas "tomaszin" Corna posted a 1.19 rating and Lucas "nqz" Soares finished at 1.09.

The 13-8 result gave MIBR the lead and appeared to put them in control of the series. Instead, magic produced their best stretch on Mirage.

mo0N drags magic back into the series on Mirage

Mirage was magic's pick and quickly became the turning point.

The teams traded rounds throughout the opening half before magic established a 7-5 lead. MIBR briefly moved ahead 10-9 after the break, but magic answered with four of the next five rounds to close out a 13-11 victory.

mo0N was outstanding throughout the map. He finished with 29 kills, 104.8 ADR and a 1.63 rating, comfortably leading the server. His impact was not limited to raw fragging: he also posted 11 AWP kills and helped magic repeatedly punish MIBR's attempts to regain control of the map.

The result was notable in the context of the tournament. Mirage had already been a problem for magic in their opening match, when Vitality defeated them 13-6 on the same map. This time, however, magic turned the map into a close battle and successfully converted it into their first map win of StarSeries.

For MIBR, the response was more important than the setback. Instead of allowing the series to follow the pattern of their previous three-map loss to FURIA, they returned to one of the strongest maps they had shown at the event.

Inferno gives MIBR the answer

MIBR had already won Inferno 13-11 against FURIA one day earlier. Against magic, they went even further, closing the decider 13-8 and finishing their second consecutive StarSeries series with a win on the map.

magic actually made the better start, moving to a 3-0 lead, but MIBR recovered and reached the break ahead 7-5. After the side switch, the Brazilians allowed only three more rounds.

The most obvious difference was the opening duel battle. MIBR won 14 opening kills to magic's seven, giving them twice as many opportunities to play rounds with the first-man advantage. They also won three clutches to magic's two, although the much larger opening-duel gap was the defining statistical difference.

nqz was particularly effective on the decider, finishing with 22 kills, 103.4 ADR, 16 AWP kills and a 1.42 rating. insani added a 1.54 rating and six opening kills, while tomaszin produced a 1.30 rating.

magic's resistance again centered on mo0N, but the rest of the lineup could not maintain the level needed to challenge MIBR. eksiver ended Inferno with a 0.47 rating, while sFade8 posted 0.98 and tenzy 0.96.

insani stays hot as MIBR's second series tells a different story

Across the full series, insani led MIBR with a 1.45 rating, 63-42 K-D, 102.9 ADR and 75.8% KAST. tomaszin followed with a 1.31 rating and a 53-40 scoreline, while nqz finished at 1.14.

The tournament trend is especially encouraging for MIBR's two main performers. insani had already led the team in their opening series against FURIA with a 1.21 rating, but jumped to 1.45 against magic. tomaszin also improved sharply from 1.01 against FURIA to 1.31 here.

The same improvement is visible on the other side. mo0N went from a 0.87 rating in magic's loss to Vitality to 1.34 against MIBR, becoming the clear centerpiece of their resistance. MaSvAl also improved from 0.76 to 1.01. The problem was the bottom of the lineup: tenzy remained below a 1.00 rating, while sFade8 and eksiver both finished below 0.80.

That distribution ultimately separated the teams. MIBR had three players above 1.10, while magic relied overwhelmingly on mo0N for consistent high-level fragging.

MIBR move on while magic's run ends

The win puts MIBR into the lower-bracket semifinal of the eight-team, double-elimination StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026. The Brazilians now await the loser of the NRG-Aurora upper-bracket semifinal.

For MIBR, the victory also changes the shape of their tournament run. They lost a close opener to FURIA, then responded by winning two of three maps against magic and repeating their Inferno success from the previous day. Their current map record stands at 3-3, with both Inferno appearances ending in victories.

magic leave Barcelona in 7th-8th place after two consecutive series defeats. Their circumstances were unusual from the start, with eksiver replacing AW, but the team still managed to take a map from MIBR and briefly turn the series around on Mirage. The result ends their StarSeries campaign, while MIBR remain one series away from the lower-bracket final.
