MIBR impose disciplinary sanctions on kl1m over “unacceptable” remark

Brazilian esports organization MIBR has announced internal disciplinary action against Klimentii “kl1m” Krivosheev following a comment made during a South American FACEIT match in which kl1m referred to a Chilean player as a “monkey.” The organization condemned the remark as unacceptable and emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated.

What happened

The incident took place in a FACEIT match, part of the South American scene. It is alleged that in the course of play, kl1m used the word “monkey” when addressing or referring to a Chilean player.

Given the strong racial connotations of the term (especially in Latin America), the organization responded swiftly.

MIBR’s response

MIBR made a formal statement repudiating “any form of prejudice, be it racism, xenophobia, or discrimination of any kind.” They described the word used by kl1m as “unacceptable.”

The organization announced that kl1m will be enrolled in a racial and cultural literacy program, focusing on Brazil’s history and social challenges.

They also warned that recurrence will not be tolerated

kl1m’s reaction

Klimentii Krivosheev has publicly apologized via X (formerly Twitter), stating that there was no racist intent behind his comment.

He pledged to educate himself about Brazilian culture.

Kl1m has defended that in his culture, the word “monkey” may carry different connotations, but MIBR rejected this as insufficient given the broader context and impact.

Context

Kl1m, aged 19, joined MIBR on loan from G2 Ares roughly two weeks prior to the announcement.

His signing was part of MIBR’s move toward an international roster. Around the same time, they also added Aleksei “Qikert” Golubev on loan from PARIVISION.

At the time, kl1m had made only one official appearance for the team, and the match against Keyd Stars in the ESL Challenger League was slated to be his second.

Why it matters

  • Words with racial implications can have serious consequences in international and multicultural esports settings. While some terms may carry different weight or meaning in different cultures, the global nature of esports means organizations must be sensitive to how such terms are received.

  • MIBR’s decision shows a stance toward accountability: internal education and a warning about recurrence. It may set a precedent for similar situations in the region.
