magic CS2 Shock PGL Astana Playoff Run: tenzy Says Team “Developing Rapidly”
magic Complete Stunning PGL Astana Comeback After 0-2 Start
The breakout run from Russian-speaking squad magic has become one of the biggest stories of PGL Astana 2025. After opening the Swiss stage with an 0-2 record, the team recovered with three straight victories over K27, HEROIC, and Gentle Mates to secure a surprise playoff spot at their first tier-one Counter-Strike 2 event.
According to HLTV, magic entered the tournament through the open qualifier and recently added Abdurakhim “mo0N” Issa just two months before the event. The deep playoff run also pushed the team higher in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) while guaranteeing at least $80,000 in prize money.
Nikita “tenzy” Kochenyuk praised the roster’s rapid improvement after the historic result.
“Our development is going rapidly,” tenzy told HLTV.
The in-game leader explained that the lineup is still extremely new and believes the experience gained at PGL Astana could become a turning point for the organization’s future in CS2 esports.
tenzy Leads magic Through Elimination Matches
magic’s lower-bracket recovery began with a must-win series against K27. tenzy delivered one of the best individual performances of the tournament, recording 50 kills on Overpass and finishing the series with a 1.68 rating and over 101 ADR.
The team followed that victory with a major upset over HEROIC. The Danish organization arrived in Astana hoping for a stronger showing after recent struggles, but losses to FURIA, Gentle Mates, and magic ended their tournament run early.
Before the elimination, HEROIC player Linus “Chr1zN” Sjöberg had said the team felt more comfortable compared to previous events, making the defeat against magic even more surprising for fans following the CS2 competitive scene.
mo0N Calls Astana Playoff Qualification “Amazing”
magic completed the comeback run by defeating Gentle Mates 2-0 in the decisive qualification match. After the series, mo0N described the moment as “amazing,” especially because the event was held in his home country Kazakhstan.
The player highlighted the importance of performing in front of a local crowd and said the arena atmosphere made the victory even more emotional.
The result instantly transformed magic from an unknown qualifier team into one of the breakout rosters of the PGL Astana tournament.
magic Emerging as a New Tier-Two CS2 Threat
The rapid rise of magic reflects the increasingly competitive nature of tier-two Counter-Strike. Teams outside the established top 10 continue to close the gap through regional qualifiers, improved infrastructure, and valuable LAN experience.
tenzy emphasized that consistent improvement requires constant adaptation, practice, and roster development. The playoff appearance at PGL Astana now gives magic a major opportunity to gain ranking points, experience against elite opposition, and visibility within the CS2 esports ecosystem.
With momentum building around the roster, magic may soon become a regular contender at top international Counter-Strike tournaments.
