Legacy coach adrrr after Spirit loss: “They’ll understand we’re here to stay”

Legacy’s Esports World Cup 2026 run stopped one series short of the grand final, but Alan “adrrr” Riveros does not see the defeat to Spirit as the defining result of the team’s stay in Paris.
The Brazilian side fell 0-2 to Spirit in the semi-finals, losing Dust2 7-13 and Ancient 9-13 after arriving at the match on the back of consecutive sweeps over Natus Vincere and Falcons. Spirit’s Danil “donk” Kryshkovets and Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov proved difficult to contain, finishing the series with 1.62 and 1.50 ratings respectively.
For adrrr, however, the bigger picture is what Legacy have shown since reshaping the roster around Santino “try” Rigal. The Argentine AWPer only joined in July, yet his first event with the lineup has already produced a deep EWC run and victories over several heavyweight opponents.
“A lot of people, a lot of teams, still see us as underdogs,” adrrr said after the semi-final. “They’ll come to understand that we’re here to stay.”

Legacy’s roster and current ranking are confirmed by HLTV, while EWC 2026 is being held in Paris with the Counter-Strike tournament running from August 12-23.
Why this Legacy run matters
The Spirit loss was Legacy’s first setback of the playoff phase after an unexpectedly convincing path through the bracket.
Legacy opened the event with a 13-5 win over Ninjas in Pyjamas before losing 0-2 to FaZe. They recovered by beating MIBR 2-0 to secure a playoff place, then produced their best Counter-Strike of the tournament when elimination matches began.
NAVI were swept 2-0 in the round of 16, with Legacy taking Inferno 13-9 before demolishing Ancient 13-2. Falcons followed in the quarter-finals, where Legacy won Mirage 13-7 and Dust2 13-10. try was particularly influential against Falcons, posting a 1.49 rating across the two maps.
Those results give context to adrrr’s claim that Legacy are moving beyond the underdog label. This was not a semi-final appearance built around one isolated upset: they eliminated NAVI and Falcons on consecutive days without dropping a map.
On the Spirit loss
Legacy had opportunities to make the semi-final more uncomfortable for Spirit.
According to adrrr, Dust2 changed after Legacy established a 5-1 advantage but failed to convert a 5v4. Spirit took control from there and rarely gave the Brazilians room to reset.
“We started off on Dust2 and built up a 5-1 lead,” the coach explained, pointing to the lost advantage as the moment the momentum shifted.
Spirit eventually took Dust2 13-7. The numbers underline how difficult the second half became for Legacy: donk finished the series with 44 kills and 104.5 ADR, while sh1ro went 37-19.
The second map was more competitive.
Ancient was Legacy’s choice in the veto, and adrrr believes the pick caught Spirit somewhat off guard. Legacy reached halftime level at 6-6, but Spirit’s CT side eventually separated the teams and closed the map 13-9.
“We’ve practiced it a lot, so we were confident,” adrrr said.
That confidence had an obvious foundation. Ancient had been one of the maps on which Legacy dismantled NAVI two days earlier, winning 13-2 after another dominant 10-2 opening half.
Against Spirit, though, small mistakes were punished far more severely. adrrr highlighted Legacy’s CT side and an eco-round loss as areas where the map slipped away.
try’s arrival has accelerated the project
The timing of Legacy’s run is significant because this is still a relatively new version of the team.
try officially joined Legacy on July 11, replacing Guilherme “saadzin” Pacheco. The move reunited the Argentine AWPer with dumau and latto, former teammates from their time together in 00NATION.
“It exceeded expectations, especially after a roster change,” adrrr said of Legacy’s run in Paris.
He was particularly positive about try’s integration, saying the AWPer had adapted quickly and become an important part of the team.
The early results support that assessment. try was Legacy’s highest-rated player against Falcons and again led the team statistically in the loss to Spirit, finishing the semi-final 31-24 with a 1.19 rating.
HLTV currently lists Legacy’s active five as arT, dumau, latto, n1ssim and try, with adrrr behind them as coach.
For a lineup that has had only a little over a month together, reaching the final four of a 32-team, $2 million event is substantial progress.
“We’re here to stay”
The strongest part of adrrr’s interview was not his explanation of the Spirit defeat but his view of how opponents perceive Legacy.
“I think a lot of people, a lot of teams, still see us as underdogs,” he said.
Legacy have spent much of this tournament making that label harder to justify.
The team arrived in Paris after a difficult IEM Cologne Major 2026 campaign and with try still new to the system. At EWC, they have instead beaten MIBR, NAVI and Falcons in three consecutive best-of-three series and reached the semi-finals before running into Spirit.
The next challenge is turning one deep tournament run into a repeatable level. That distinction is important: a strong week can establish a team as dangerous, but regular playoff appearances are what remove the underdog tag for good.
That is effectively the point adrrr was making.
“This is shaping us so we can establish ourselves soon,” he said. “They’ll come to understand that we’re here to stay.”

A Brazilian bronze match against FURIA
Legacy were given little time to process the Spirit defeat.
Their final match at EWC 2026 is against FURIA in the third-place decider after Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo’s team lost a three-map semi-final to FUT. FURIA took Nuke 13-6 but dropped Ancient 11-13 and Dust2 13-16 in overtime.
For adrrr, the match is about more than placement.
“It’s worth points, money, morale,” he said, before adding that playing another Brazilian team gives the series extra significance for the domestic audience.
The financial difference is also meaningful. EWC 2026 awards $190,000 for third place compared with $110,000 for fourth.
The third-place match had already begun by the time this article was updated, with FURIA winning Legacy’s Ancient pick 13-9 in the opening map. Nuke was scheduled second, with Dust2 left as the potential decider.
Legacy vs FURIA: recent head-to-head
The Brazilian rivals do have recent history, although it comes with an important roster caveat.
FURIA defeated Legacy 2-1 at BLAST Open London in August 2025, winning Inferno and Mirage around a Legacy victory on Nuke. Legacy responded just over a month later with a 2-0 win at ESL Pro League Season 22, taking Dust2 13-9 and Mirage 13-11.
Those results should not be treated as a direct preview of the EWC matchup. FURIA already fielded their current five of molodoy, yuurih, FalleN, KSCERATO and YEKINDAR in the ESL Pro League meeting, but Legacy were still playing with lux and saadzin rather than arT and try.
The current Legacy therefore bring a different leadership structure, AWPer and overall tactical profile into the rematch.

What comes next for Legacy?
The immediate task is finishing EWC against FURIA, but adrrr’s comments are more interesting when viewed beyond the bronze match.
Legacy have already shown that this version of the roster can beat established international opposition. The next question is whether their EWC level survives beyond Paris.
They will not have to wait long for another test. HLTV currently lists FUT as Legacy’s next opponent after EWC, with the teams due to meet at BLAST Open Porto 2026 on August 27.
For adrrr, the Paris run appears to have changed the baseline expectation internally. Legacy are no longer satisfied with simply being competitive against elite teams.
The coach wants opponents to start expecting them in the later rounds.
