Wildcard Step In for The Huns at PGL Bucharest After Scheduling Clash

PGL has confirmed a late roster change for its upcoming Bucharest event, with Wildcard stepping in to replace The Huns following the latter’s withdrawal due to a scheduling conflict.

The Mongolian squad, who had originally secured their place through the Asian qualification route, will no longer attend the Romanian LAN as their calendar overlaps with the XSE GangKui Cup Season 2 Finals in Shanghai, scheduled for April 1–5. With both events taking place simultaneously, The Huns opted to prioritize their participation in the Asian competition.

As a result, PGL issued a direct invite to Wildcard, a North American lineup that previously finished as runners-up in the closed qualifier. The invitation ensures the tournament maintains its full team count while also rewarding Wildcard for their near-qualification performance.

Wildcard enter the event as one of the lower-ranked teams in attendance, currently sitting outside the top tier of the global standings. Their roster — featuring players such as mhL, HexT, and Peeping — has shown flashes of potential but lacks significant tier-one LAN experience, making Bucharest a key opportunity to prove themselves against stronger opposition.

For The Huns, the withdrawal represents a missed opportunity to compete on a prominent European stage despite strong recent momentum in regional competition. The team had earned their Bucharest slot through qualification and has been steadily climbing the rankings, with consistent appearances in Asian events and qualifiers. However, their packed schedule — including commitments like the XSE GangKui Cup Finals — forced a strategic decision to focus on events closer to their region.

This change continues a broader trend seen across recent tournaments, where overlapping schedules and the increasingly dense CS2 calendar have led to multiple last-minute roster adjustments. Event organizers have frequently had to rely on replacement teams from qualifier circuits to fill gaps, highlighting both the depth of the competitive scene and the logistical challenges of a packed international circuit.

With Wildcard now confirmed, PGL Bucharest will proceed with a complete lineup, offering the North American squad a rare chance to test themselves in a high-level LAN environment while maintaining the tournament’s competitive integrity.
