NRG Replace br0 With daps at CS Asia Championships 2026 Amid Family Emergency
NRG were forced into a last-minute roster change at the CS Asia Championships 2026 (CAC 2026), with head coach Damian “daps” Steele stepping in for Alexander “br0” Bro after the Danish rifler left the tournament because of a family emergency.
The organization confirmed the situation shortly before its elimination match against MOUZ, asking fans and the Counter-Strike community to respect br0’s privacy during the situation.
According to HLTV, daps replaced br0 for the remainder of the event, marking another emergency stand-in appearance for the veteran Canadian in 2026.
Why did br0 leave CAC 2026?
NRG announced that br0 departed the tournament due to a family emergency ahead of the team’s Group A lower-bracket series against MOUZ.
The organization did not provide additional details, instead publishing a short statement requesting privacy for the player and his family.
The timing dealt a major blow to NRG, who were already fighting for survival after opening the tournament with a 13-10 loss to Legacy.
NRG eliminated from CAC 2026 by MOUZ
Despite the emergency substitution, NRG managed to challenge MOUZ in a competitive three-map series.
The North American squad secured Ancient 13-10 thanks to a strong performance from Aran “Sonic” Groesbeek, but MOUZ responded convincingly on Nuke with a 13-6 victory before closing the decider on Mirage 13-9.
The defeat eliminated NRG from CS Asia Championships 2026 without a single series win.
NRG vs MOUZ results at CAC 2026
- Ancient — NRG 13-10 MOUZ
- Nuke — MOUZ 13-6 NRG
- Mirage — MOUZ 13-9 NRG
Sonic finished the series as NRG’s highest-rated player with a 1.17 rating, while daps posted a 0.66 rating in his return to official competition.
For MOUZ, Lotan “Spinx” Giladi and Ádám “torzsi” Torzsás led the way with 1.23 and 1.21 ratings respectively.
daps once again returns as emergency stand-in
This is not the first time daps has been called into action for NRG during a major Counter-Strike event.
At the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, daps temporarily replaced Nick “nitr0” Cannella, who missed the tournament due to the birth of his child.
Speaking to HLTV during that event, daps explained how he prepared for the unexpected return to competition:
“I started playing a lot more actively the last two weeks, just pugging, DMing and practicing my utility so I don’t miss things.”
The veteran coach has repeatedly become an emergency solution for NRG during difficult roster situations, despite primarily focusing on coaching duties in recent years.
br0’s role in the NRG roster
br0 joined NRG in January 2025 following his departure from Astralis, replacing Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte in the active lineup.
The move was considered one of NRG’s biggest roster additions during the organization’s rebuild around an international Counter-Strike 2 roster.
Before joining NRG, br0 spent time under heavy public attention during Astralis’ controversial emergency substitution case in 2024. ESIC later ruled that Astralis failed to properly justify the emergency request connected to br0’s eligibility situation and issued financial penalties to the organization.
What’s next for NRG?
After their early exit from CAC 2026, NRG will now shift focus toward the upcoming Cologne Major cycle.
The team is currently scheduled to face GamerLegion in Stage 1 of the Cologne Major beginning on June 2, where NRG hope to recover after consecutive disappointing tournament finishes at IEM Atlanta and CAC 2026.
