NAVI Finally Beat Vitality at IEM Atlanta 2026 as B1ad3 Explains Key Reasons Behind the Upset
Natus Vincere finally defeated Team Vitality at IEM Atlanta 2026, securing one of the biggest playoff victories of the year and ending a brutal losing streak against the world’s top-ranked Counter-Strike team.
The Ukrainian organization won the quarter-final series 2-1 after recovering from an opening-map loss on Dust2. NAVI edged out Vitality on Anubis before completely dominating Inferno 13-3 to close the series. The victory marked NAVI’s first win over Vitality after nine consecutive series defeats.
According to NAVI coach Andrey 'B1ad3' Gorodenskiy, the result could become a turning point for the team ahead of the second half of the 2026 CS2 season.
“Beating Vitality in any condition is benefiting us hugely.”
B1ad3 explained in his HLTV interview that even though Vitality were not at their absolute peak, defeating a roster led by Mathieu 'ZywOo' Herbaut still gives NAVI confidence going into future tier-one events.
Why NAVI Were Able to Beat Vitality
One of the biggest reasons behind NAVI’s victory was preparation. B1ad3 revealed that NAVI specifically targeted Inferno during the veto because Vitality had barely played the map recently.
According to the NAVI coach, Vitality had not played Inferno since Rio and avoided the map entirely during their earlier matches in Fort Worth. NAVI identified that weakness and fully exploited it in the decider.
The final map turned into a complete one-sided affair as NAVI shut Vitality down 13-3, one of the French organization’s worst playoff losses of the season.
B1ad3 also suggested that Vitality may have made a critical mistake by allowing Inferno through the veto phase.
Vitality’s Practice Issues Became a Major Talking Point
Vitality players themselves had already hinted that the team entered IEM Atlanta without ideal preparation.
After reaching the playoffs, Robin 'ropz' Kool admitted that Vitality had little practice coming into the event.
“We didn’t practice.”
The Estonian star described the roster as “a bit rusty” and explained that IEM Atlanta was not one of Vitality’s priority tournaments this season. However, he also said the team still wanted to compete seriously and avoid an early exit.
Those comments gained much more attention after Vitality suffered upset losses against both BetBoom and NAVI during the tournament.
BetBoom Already Exposed Weaknesses in Vitality
Before facing NAVI, Vitality were surprisingly sent to the lower bracket by BetBoom Team.
BetBoom’s aggressive pace and constant trading created major problems for apEX’s squad throughout the series. Analysts and players noted that Vitality looked uncomfortable under heavy pressure, especially during chaotic mid-round situations.
That defeat gave NAVI additional confidence heading into the playoff matchup.
Earlier in the event, NAVI rifler Mihai 'iM' Ivan openly stated that Vitality had “showed weakness” after losing to BetBoom.
“I think the biggest opponent for us is us, not Astralis, not Legacy, not even Vitality.”
The Romanian player emphasized that NAVI’s biggest challenge throughout 2026 had been consistency rather than pure skill.
Aleksib Says Mentality Was the Difference
After the win, NAVI captain Aleksi 'Aleksib' Virolainen pointed to mentality as the key factor behind the breakthrough victory.
“It’s just the mentality.”
Aleksib explained that NAVI had spent months trying to overcome the psychological barrier against Vitality after repeatedly losing close series earlier in the season.
The victory also ended several historic streaks for Vitality, including:
21 consecutive top-four tournament finishes
28 straight playoff map wins
Nine straight series victories over NAVI
What’s Next for NAVI?
NAVI now move forward to the IEM Atlanta semi-finals, where they will face BetBoom Team in another high-pressure CIS rivalry.
B1ad3 warned that BetBoom are extremely dangerous due to their active schedule and constant officials against lower-tier opposition, which helps the team maintain sharp form and tactical flexibility.
The NAVI coach also confirmed the organization’s preparation plans for the upcoming Major cycle, including a full bootcamp and early arrival before IEM Cologne to adjust to tournament conditions.
With Vitality finally beaten, NAVI may have found the confidence boost they needed before the most important tournaments of the CS2 season.
