ESL Confirms IEM Beijing 2026 as Counter-Strike Returns to China’s Capital
ESL has officially announced IEM Beijing 2026, marking the return of Intel Extreme Masters to China’s capital for the first time since 2019. The Counter-Strike 2 tournament is scheduled for November 2-8, 2026, and will take place at the Bloomage Biotech·Biohyalux ECM Arena in Wukesong, Haidian District, Beijing. The event will feature 16 teams competing for a total prize pool of $1,250,000.
According to ESL’s official event page, IEM Beijing 2026 will be part of the ESL Pro Tour as an EPT Masters tournament. The organizer says the event will bring “sixteen of the world’s best teams” to a new 360-degree stage, with the Group Stage beginning on November 2.
The return to Beijing is notable because the city last hosted an IEM Counter-Strike event in 2019. That tournament was won by Astralis, while 100 Thieves finished as runners-up and Vitality reached the top four. HLTV also notes that the 2019 edition featured a well-known 100 Thieves lineup with Justin “jks” Savage and a French Vitality roster including Richard “shox” Papillon and Cédric “RpK” Guipouy.
IEM Beijing 2026 is also expected to be one of ESL’s largest Asian arena events. The Esports Advocate reported, citing ESL FACEIT Group, that the tournament is positioned as the largest standalone IEM event ever held in Asia, with more than 45,000 fans expected across the six competition days. The same report says the event will be organized in partnership with the Beijing Esports Industry Development Association as part of the “Beijing Esports” initiative.
A major feature of the event will be fan access throughout the full tournament. HLTV reports that fans will be present during all six days of play, while The Esports Advocate adds that the event will include group-stage access, playoffs, partner activations, signing sessions with participating teams, and other on-site programming.
The format is expected to follow a familiar ESL structure. Esports Charts reports that the 16 teams will be split into two double-elimination groups of eight, with all Group Stage matches played as best-of-three series. The top three teams from each group will advance to a six-team single-elimination playoff bracket. The quarterfinals, semifinals, and third-place decider are listed as best-of-three matches, while the Grand Final is expected to be best-of-five.
Qualification will reportedly rely heavily on Valve Regional Standings, with a mix of direct invitations and qualifier spots. Esports Charts states that ten teams are expected to receive Global VRS invites, with additional direct places for leading teams from North America, South America, and Asia. The remaining slots are set to be filled through Global and Asian Closed Qualifiers.
The Beijing event is part of ESL FACEIT Group’s broader 2026 IEM calendar. In June 2025, EFG announced that IEM would return to Brazil, the United States, and China in 2026, with the China stop originally listed for November 2-8. That earlier announcement also stated that teams would compete for VRS points and continue the ESL Grand Slam race.
IEM Beijing 2026 will also count toward ESL Grand Slam VII. ESL’s official Grand Slam page states that Team Vitality won the sixth race and that the seventh race began at IEM Atlanta 2026. ESL’s rules say a team can complete the Grand Slam by winning three EPT Masters tournaments and one EPT Championship tournament within a span of ten consecutive events.
For Chinese Counter-Strike fans, IEM Beijing 2026 continues the country’s recent run of major ESL events. China has hosted IEM events in cities including Chengdu, Shanghai, and Beijing, and the upcoming tournament will follow the recent Chengdu editions. Esports Charts notes that IEM Chengdu 2025 is currently the most-watched IEM Counter-Strike event held in China by peak viewers, reaching 775,000 during FURIA vs. Team Vitality.
Ticketing details, participating teams, media partners, and the financial terms of ESL’s cooperation with local organizers have not yet been disclosed.
