Intel Extreme Masters heads to Atlanta this week as 16 teams prepare to battle for a $1,000,000 prize pool at one of the final elite tournaments before the summer Major season.

The tournament will run from May 11-17 in Atlanta, Georgia, featuring a stacked field that includes top contenders such as Team Vitality, Team Falcons, MOUZ, Team Liquid, FURIA, The MongolZ, and Astralis.

All eyes are once again on Team Vitality, who arrive in Atlanta as overwhelming favorites after putting together one of the most dominant stretches in modern Counter-Strike. The French-led international squad has already secured titles at events including IEM Kraków 2026, PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026, BLAST Open Rotterdam 2026, IEM Rio 2026, and BLAST Rivals Fort Worth 2026, extending their winning streak to five consecutive trophies heading into Atlanta.

Led by captain Dan Madesclaire and superstar AWPer Mathieu Herbaut, Vitality are aiming to continue their dominance before the upcoming IEM Cologne Major 2026 later this summer.

The event format follows ESL’s familiar structure. The 16 teams are split into two double-elimination GSL groups, with all group-stage matches played as best-of-three series. The winner of each group advances directly to the semi-finals, while the second- and third-place teams move on to the quarter-finals. The playoffs will use a single-elimination bracket, with all matches best-of-three except for the grand final, which will be played as a best-of-five.

The total $1,000,000 prize pool is divided between player winnings and club shares under the modern Valve-aligned structure. Teams are competing for $300,000 in player prize money and an additional $700,000 allocated directly to organizations. The tournament champion will take home $125,000 in player earnings alongside a $170,000 club share.

Several teams enter Atlanta with major storylines surrounding recent roster moves and form swings. Team Falcons continue integrating legendary in-game leader Finn Andersen after his recent arrival, while MOUZ are still evaluating the temporary addition of Justinas Lekavicius.

Meanwhile, FURIA arrive in Atlanta looking to regain consistency after recent comments from Mareks Gaļinskis about the team losing part of its identity during difficult stretches earlier in the season.

The event also features one of the most recognizable broadcast crews of the year, with ESL assembling a full on-air talent lineup including desk analysts, commentators, interviewers, and stage hosts for the week-long competition.

Fantasy players will once again have a single game covering both the group stage and playoffs rather than separate stages. According to HLTV, stars such as Oleksandr Kostyliev have already become popular picks despite concerns surrounding deep playoff potential for some lower-seeded teams. Fantasy participants will also compete for skin prizes, including a Huntsman Knife | Bright Water and other premium cosmetics.

IEM Atlanta opens during an especially packed stretch of the Counter-Strike calendar, overlapping with PGL Astana 2026 and arriving just weeks before the season shifts toward Cologne and the year’s next Major championship.
