FUT Beat G2 to Secure ESL Pro League Season 23 Playoff Spot

Turkish squad FUT Esports continued its impressive rise in the Counter-Strike scene by defeating G2 Esports and securing a place in the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 23. The victory marked another milestone in what has been widely described as a breakthrough year for the team, highlighting their growing competitiveness against established tier-one opponents.

The decisive series took place during Stage 2 of the tournament in the 2-2 Swiss pool, where both teams faced elimination. The best-of-three match ended in a 2–1 victory for FUT, sending the Turkish lineup to the LAN finals while G2 were eliminated from the competition. 

G2 began the series strongly. On the opening map, Mirage, the European side controlled the pace from the start and delivered a convincing 13–4 victory. Their early dominance suggested that they would comfortably close out the series and move forward in the event.

However, FUT responded on the second map, Dust2, where they managed to shift momentum in their favor. The Turkish squad tightened their defense and executed several key rounds on the offensive side to edge out G2 13–11, tying the series and forcing a deciding map. 

The final battleground, Overpass, proved to be the turning point of the series. G2 initially looked poised to secure the win after building an 8–4 halftime lead, but FUT mounted an impressive comeback in the second half. The team rallied together with disciplined defense and crucial individual plays, eventually closing the map 13–11 to complete the reverse sweep and clinch the playoff spot. 

Several FUT players delivered impactful performances during the series, helping the team recover after the heavy loss on Mirage. Romanian rifler lauNX was among the most effective contributors on the decider, while the rest of the roster provided consistent support across key rounds. The squad’s resilience on Overpass — particularly their ability to overturn the halftime deficit — became one of the defining moments of the match.

For FUT, the result continues a remarkable season in which the team has steadily improved its international standing. Entering the event ranked outside the very top tier, the lineup demonstrated that it can compete with and defeat well-established organizations on the biggest stages. Their victory over G2 not only secured a place in the playoffs but also reinforced their reputation as one of the rising contenders in the current Counter-Strike landscape.

Meanwhile, the elimination represented another disappointing result for G2. The European organization had earlier advanced through the previous stage of the tournament by defeating Ninjas in Pyjamas 2–0, which allowed them to reach Stage 2 of the competition.  Despite that promising start, the team ultimately failed to maintain consistency and could not secure a playoff berth.

The ESL Pro League Season 23 playoffs bring together the top teams from the tournament to compete in the final stage for the championship and a share of the $1,000,000 prize pool. FUT’s qualification ensures that the Turkish squad will now travel to the LAN finals, where they will face some of the strongest teams in the world in the next phase of the competition. 

Their victory over G2 stands as one of the most significant achievements in the organization’s history so far and highlights the growing diversity of contenders within professional Counter-Strike. If FUT can maintain the form and resilience they displayed in the decisive match, the team could continue its surprising run deep into the playoffs.
