Astralis edge FUT in overtime thriller to secure third place at ESL Pro League Season 23

Astralis edge FUT in overtime to claim ESL Pro League Season 23 bronze
Astralis secured third place at the ESL Pro League Season 23 Finals after defeating FUT Esports 2–1 in a tightly contested best-of-three series that culminated in an overtime finish on the decider map. The victory allowed the Danish squad to end their campaign on a high note and maintain the upper hand in what has become an increasingly competitive rivalry between the two teams.
Heading into the match, Astralis were ranked ninth in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS), just ahead of FUT in tenth, making the encounter between the closely ranked teams particularly significant in the race for points and momentum.
FUT strike first on Dust2
The series opened on Dust2, a map chosen by FUT, where the Turkish squad managed to seize early control. Their structured approach and confident aim allowed them to outpace Astralis through key mid-round conversions, ultimately taking the map 13–6.
With the first map secured, FUT appeared poised to claim the bronze medal, having gained both the scoreboard advantage and early momentum in the series.
Astralis respond on Ancient
Astralis quickly bounced back on Ancient, the map they selected. The Danish team produced a far more disciplined performance, establishing control on both sides of the map.
By consistently winning opening duels and shutting down FUT’s attempts to regain map control, Astralis gradually built a commanding lead before closing the map out 13–3. The dominant showing forced a decider and shifted the momentum back toward the Danes.
Overtime drama decides the series
The final map proved far more competitive, with both teams trading rounds in a tense battle that extended beyond regulation. FUT held their ground for much of the decider, but Astralis managed to claw their way back into the match during the closing stages.
Once the game reached overtime, Astralis delivered a flawless finish. The team capitalized on key late-game moments—particularly from Victor “Staehr” Staehr—to sweep through the extra rounds and secure the series victory.
Continuing a developing rivalry
The result further adds to the growing rivalry between the two squads during ESL Pro League Season 23. Earlier in the tournament, Astralis had already defeated FUT during Stage 2 of the competition, reinforcing their advantage in the matchup.
Their strong showing at the event also follows other notable wins during the league, including an overtime triumph over FaZe Clan earlier in the tournament, highlighting Astralis’ ability to prevail in high-pressure situations.
Strong finish for Astralis
By claiming third place, Astralis close out ESL Pro League Season 23 with valuable experience and ranking points, demonstrating resilience after missing out on the grand final.
For FUT, the loss marks a disappointing end to an otherwise strong run through the event. Despite falling short in the bronze decider, the team showed they can challenge top-tier opposition and remain competitive among Europe’s rising contenders.
