Astralis Defeat FURIA to Secure Final ESL Pro League Season 23 Playoffs Spot

Astralis defeated FURIA 2-1 to claim the final playoff spot at ESL Pro League Season 23, completing a lower-bracket run and booking a quarter-final clash with Spirit in Stockholm.

Astralis produced a convincing performance against FURIA to secure the last remaining place in the ESL Pro League Season 23 playoffs, winning the decisive series 2-1. The international roster dominated two of the three maps—Nuke and Inferno—while FURIA managed to take Dust2 in the middle of the series.

The victory sends Astralis to the arena stage in Stockholm, where they will face Spirit in the quarter-finals.

Astralis dominate Nuke and Inferno

The series opened on Nuke, where Astralis immediately took control. Their CT side shut down FURIA’s offensive setups, allowing them to secure a 13-4 victory with little resistance.

FURIA managed to respond on Dust2, where Danil “molodoy” Golubenko delivered a strong AWP performance. The Brazilian side capitalized on several opening picks and took the map 13-9, forcing a deciding map.

However, the momentum quickly shifted again on Inferno. Astralis won a crucial early force-buy and never looked back, crushing FURIA 13-4 to close the series and secure qualification for the playoffs.

Victor “Staehr” Staehr led Astralis statistically with a 1.38 rating across the series, delivering multiple multi-kill rounds that helped seal the victory.

Astralis complete comeback run in ESL Pro League Stage 2

The win capped off a dramatic lower-bracket survival run for Astralis in Stage 2 of ESL Pro League Season 23.

After starting the stage with a win over FUT, Astralis suffered back-to-back losses against MOUZ and Legacy, putting the team one series away from elimination.

From that point on, the roster fought its way back:

Astralis eliminated FaZe in a tense elimination series

They then defeated FURIA to secure the final playoff berth

This resilience allowed the team to qualify for the ESL Pro League arena stage despite an inconsistent start.

FURIA fall short after early-stage recovery

FURIA’s exit ends a difficult Stage 2 campaign for the Brazilian squad.

The team initially dropped into the 0-2 elimination bracket after losing to B8 and 3DMAX. Facing an early tournament exit, FURIA recovered with important wins over HEROIC and paiN Gaming to stay alive.

However, their run ended against Astralis, who proved far stronger on the decisive maps.

Staehr praises Astralis’ new lineup

Astralis’ playoff appearance is particularly significant given the organization’s recent roster rebuild.

The team moved to an international lineup earlier this year, adding Love “phzy” Smidebrant and Gytis “ryu” Glušauskas.

In a previous interview, Staehr praised the new additions and their impact on the roster.

“I was very surprised in a good way by them. Both are so good individually.”

Phzy also expressed confidence about finally reaching consistent form with Astralis.

“I’ve shown glimpses of what I can do. I just gotta reach that level more consistently.”

The team’s qualification for the ESL Pro League playoffs suggests the roster may already be finding its rhythm.
