About
G2 Esports is a professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) organization founded in 2014 by Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez, based in Berlin, Germany. Known for its flair, star-studded rosters, and entertaining playstyle, G2 has grown into one of the most recognizable and successful teams in the global Counter-Strike scene. Over the years, G2 Esports has combined world-class talent with a high-energy team culture, producing iconic moments and championship victories that have solidified its place among the elite organizations in competitive Counter-Strike.
Origins and Early Development
G2 entered the Counter-Strike scene in 2015, initially under the name Gamers2. The team began its journey with a roster of emerging European talent and quickly gained attention for its aggressive and high-impact playstyle. By late 2015, G2 transitioned into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, signing rosters from various European regions before establishing itself as one of the leading organizations in the game.
The breakthrough came when G2 acquired the French superteam from Team EnVyUs in 2017, featuring legendary players such as Richard “shox” Papillon, Kenny “kennyS” Schrub, Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt, and Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro. This move placed G2 at the forefront of the European Counter-Strike scene, where they consistently competed for top placements at premier events.
Rise to International Prominence
From 2018 to 2020, G2 underwent a series of roster changes, marking the beginning of its transition from a French lineup to an international one. The arrival of Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač and Nemanja “nexa” Isaković in late 2019 revitalized the team, bringing structure and firepower. Shortly after, G2 signed Audric “JACKZ” Jug, adding an explosive entry presence to their core.
In 2021, G2 made one of its most defining moves by signing Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, a young Russian prodigy from NAVI Junior, alongside maintaining Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, one of the best riflers in the world. This roster quickly became a global fan favorite due to its mix of raw skill, creativity, and explosive potential.
G2’s roster, built around NiKo, huNter-, and m0NESY, became synonymous with world-class aim and aggressive, confident play. Their dynamic style, combined with strategic discipline, helped the team reach multiple finals and secure top finishes at major events.
The Path to Glory — Major Titles and Championships
After years of close calls and heartbreaking finishes, G2 finally claimed its long-awaited major victories in 2023. The team won IEM Katowice 2023, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, defeating Heroic in a dominant grand final performance. The victory marked G2’s first top-tier championship since 2017 and ended a multi-year drought for the organization.
Later in 2023, G2 followed up their success with another major title, winning IEM Cologne 2023, completing an extraordinary year for the organization. These victories cemented G2’s status as one of the strongest teams in the world, with NiKo and m0NESY both being named MVPs at premier events for their exceptional performances.
In 2024, G2 successfully transitioned into Counter-Strike 2, maintaining its competitive form and continuing to contend at the highest level. The team’s chemistry and firepower, along with its passionate fan base, have kept G2 among the most respected and entertaining squads in global Counter-Strike.
