Biography
Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut (born 9 November 2000 in Lens, France) is a French professional Counter‑Strike 2 player and renowned AWPer/rifler for Team Vitality. Widely hailed as one of the greatest Counter‑Strike talents ever, ZywOo burst onto the global stage in late 2018 and rapidly cemented his legacy through skill, consistency, and record-breaking performances.
ZywOo discovered Counter‑Strike at age seven, initially observing family members playing before being gradually allowed to compete in local tournaments just shy of his tenth birthday. His mother insisted he finish his secondary education and baccalauréat before fully committing to esports—an academic milestone he achieved in 2018, just before signing his first pro contract.
He played for several local French teams—including dizLown, Nevermind, E‑Corp Bumpers, WySix, and against All Authority—before joining Team Vitality in October 2018, after which his international career began in earnest.
Within months of joining Vitality, ZywOo contributed to winning DreamHack Open Atlanta 2018, and during 2019 Vitality reached the Katowice Minor qualification, finished 9–11th at Katowice Major 2019, 5–8th at Berlin Major 2019, and won both ECS Season 7 Finals and EPICENTER 2019, while securing runner-up spots at ESL One Cologne and DreamHack Masters Malmö. Individually, he racked up five MVP awards and posted a LAN rating around 1.30, leading to his recognition as HLTV Player of the Year 2019, making him the youngest player ever and the first Frenchman to receive the honor.
In 2020, ZywOo repeated as HLTV’s #1 overall player, securing MVP awards at tournaments including IEM Beijing-Haidian Europe, BLAST Premier Fall 2020, and others. Vitality’s performance remained strong with multiple finals appearances and championship wins.
Over the years, ZywOo accumulated three HLTV Player of the Year titles (2019, 2020, 2023) and consistently ranked in HLTV’s Top 20 six consecutive years (2019–2024), placing #1 in 2019, 2020, and 2023; #2 in 2021 and 2022; and #3 in 2024.
At Major events, his crowning achievement came at the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, where Team Vitality lifted the trophy and ZywOo was named Major MVP—the first time France hosted a CS:GO Major. He repeated this peak performance at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, securing his second Major title and Major MVP award, extending his record for tournament MVPs.
His individual accolades include a staggering 27 HLTV MVP awards, reflecting his match-winning performances across more than 80 high-profile tournaments. He also secured the ESL Grand Slam Season 5 as a highlight of team dominance.
Known by nicknames such as “The Chosen One” or “l’Élu”, ZywOo is praised for his precise aim, tactical awareness, and clutch decision-making under pressure. Initially recognized as an elite AWPer, he has evolved into a versatile hybrid rifler, adapting seamlessly to the transition from CS:GO to CS2 while maintaining peak performance
