ZywOo powers Vitality past Aurora to claim StarSeries Fall 2026 title

Vitality returned to the top step of the podium in Barcelona, defeating Aurora 3-1 in the StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026 grand final to win their first title since BLAST Rivals on May 3.

The result completed a demanding final day for Dan “apEX” Madesclaire’s side. Vitality first swept FURIA 2-0 in the consolidation final and then played four more maps against Aurora, finishing the afternoon with six map wins and the $100,000 first prize. Aurora took $65,000 after reaching their first final with the roster built around Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo.

Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut was the defining player of the best-of-five. The Frenchman recorded 71 kills, a +27 K-D difference, 95.3 ADR, 80.8% KAST and a 1.51 HLTV Rating 3.0. His grand-final performance capped a 1.50-rated tournament — 0.24 above the next-best player at the event — and earned him the 33rd MVP medal of his career.

The victory was also a sharp response to Aurora’s 2-1 win over Vitality in the upper-bracket final one day earlier. Aurora had controlled the first meeting through their CT sides on Anubis and Nuke, while Vitality managed only six attacking rounds across the series. In the rematch, Vitality immediately corrected their Anubis offense and then overwhelmed Aurora on Mirage and Cache after conceding Inferno.

Vitality reverse the Anubis script

Aurora selected Anubis after winning the map 13-7 in the upper final, where Vitality had failed to secure a single T-side round. Twenty-four hours later, the same pick produced the opposite story.

An eco victory in round six changed the shape of the opener and helped Vitality build a 9-3 defensive half. William “mezii” Merriman was the central figure, finishing the map with 22 kills, 106.8 ADR and a 1.94 rating. Vitality then closed the map with four of five rounds on the attack for a one-sided 13-4 victory.

The turnaround mattered beyond the score. Aurora’s best route into the series had been the same combination that decided the previous meeting: control the pace on their own pick and force Vitality into another uncomfortable offensive half. Instead, Vitality removed that advantage immediately and put Aurora under pressure in a BO5 where the Turkish-majority team needed several stars to maintain their upper-final level.

Wicadia protects Aurora’s path back into the final

Aurora’s response came on Vitality’s Inferno pick. They carried a 7-5 advantage out of the first half and stretched the lead to 11-5, with Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın repeatedly holding the B site before adding impact in Mid and Long on the T side.

Vitality threatened to steal the map late. Shahar “flameZ” Shushan won a 1v2 during a six-round recovery that cut the deficit to one, but Wicadia produced the closing multi-kill to secure a 13-11 win. He ended Inferno with a map-leading 1.54 rating and ultimately finished as Aurora’s only above-average performer across the series.

That distinction became important as the final continued. Aurora had enjoyed broad contributions in their first meeting: Jimpphat led the server with a 1.36 rating, Wicadia posted 1.21, and Özgür “woxic” Eker added 1.11. In the grand final, the same supporting structure disappeared. Wicadia remained productive, but Aurora’s other four players all finished below 0.85.

ZywOo and flameZ shut down Aurora’s second pick

Aurora’s decision to choose Mirage did not expose a weakness in Vitality’s map pool. The French-led side won eight of the first 12 rounds and then delivered a perfect five-round CT close for a 13-4 victory.

flameZ supplied the map’s most aggressive output, posting 109.9 ADR, five opening kills and a 1.79 rating. ZywOo added nine AWP kills as Aurora were denied both early-round space and any credible comeback after the side switch.

The distribution of Vitality’s firepower separated this final from their upper-bracket loss. ZywOo had still produced a 1.28 rating in defeat the previous day, but every teammate finished below 1.00 and Robin “ropz” Kool bottomed the scoreboard at 0.77. In the rematch, flameZ, ropz and mezii all finished at 1.18 or higher, giving Vitality four reliable sources of impact rather than asking ZywOo to rescue stalled rounds alone.

Cache confirms the gap between the two lineups

Vitality completed the title run on Cache, their second pick. ZywOo opened the map with a 1v2 and continued to control the middle of the map, including a three-kill sequence that underlined Aurora’s difficulty in limiting him. Vitality took a 7-5 halftime lead and won six of the next eight rounds to close 13-7.

ZywOo recorded the map’s highest rating at 1.55, along with six AWP kills and four opening kills. His consistency was particularly striking given the workload: earlier in the day, he had gone 42-16 with a 1.88 rating in Vitality’s 2-0 consolidation-final win over FURIA. Across those six Sunday maps, he never allowed the lower-bracket route to become a meaningful physical or competitive disadvantage.

Aurora, by contrast, could not reproduce the individual form that had carried them directly into the final. Jimpphat fell from 53-34 and a 1.36 rating in the upper final to 41-54 and 0.81 in the title match. XANTARES endured the hardest series of all, ending at 37-58 with a 0.69 rating. The drop was too severe for Wicadia’s 63 kills and 1.15 rating to offset.

Vitality turn an imperfect bracket run into a timely trophy

Both finalists had arrived at the rematch through convincing early results. Vitality opened with 2-0 victories over magic and FURIA before the upper-final loss sent them into the consolidation match. Aurora entered the grand final unbeaten after clean sweeps of NAVI and NRG, followed by the 2-1 victory over Vitality.

The final therefore did more than settle a single series. It showed that Vitality could adapt overnight to the same opponent and maps that had exposed them, while their restored five-man lineup handled a six-map final day without fading. ZywOo’s individual level remained the foundation, but the title was secured because flameZ, ropz and mezii supplied the output missing in the first Aurora meeting.

For Vitality, the Barcelona win ends a trophy drought that had lasted since May and provides momentum ahead of ESL Pro League and the run toward the Singapore Major. Aurora leave with their first grand-final appearance since adding Jimpphat and evidence that the new lineup can beat elite opposition, but the title match also showed how narrow their margin becomes when XANTARES, Jimpphat and woxic all fall below their earlier tournament level.
