VSM and PiriaJR on Joining paiN, IEM Kraków Prep and 2026 Ambitions
Brazilian Counter-Strike 2 organisation paiN Gaming have officially completed their 2026 roster build with the additions of Vinicius “vsm” Moreira and Guilherme “piriajr” Barbosa, marking a significant phase in the region’s competitive scene and Pais’ strategy to become a consistent Tier-1 contender.
After enduring an up-and-down 2025 season in which paiN beat expectations at the BLAST.tv Austin Major — reaching the top four — the team struggled to follow through at other key events, including IEM Cologne 2025 and the CS Asia Championships. These inconsistent results ultimately led to the benching of David “dav1deuS” Tapia and Franco “dgt” Garcia as the organisation sought both experience and fresh talent to recalibrate its competitive edge.
Player Journeys: From Domestic Success to International Stage
Both new signings bring unique stories and motivations to paiN’s project:
-
vsm, a seasoned Brazilian talent, has experienced a turbulent CS career — including a VAC ban early on — but rebuilt his professional path with meaningful performances at Flamengo, Keyd Stars, and other domestic outfits. His journey saw a renewed competitive spark, proving his resilience and high individual potential.
-
piriajr, joining paiN on loan from Bounty Hunters Esports, comes off a breakout year in the Brazilian scene. After multiple loan stints — notably with Fluxo — he demonstrated solid statistical output (including a 1.32 rating in the latter half of 2025) that earned him this higher-level opportunity.
Prior to signing with paiN, there were reports that paiN had been in talks with other prominent Brazilian players (including ewjerkz of Ninjas in Pyjamas) before ultimately securing piriajr.
Interestingly, vsm and piriajr previously played together back in 2020 on DETONA, when both were still developing, which has seemingly helped their transition back as teammates.
Early Tests: BLAST Bounty 2026 and Kraków
The newly assembled paiN roster made an encouraging start with a solid debut at BLAST Bounty Season 1, defeating BetBoom in a comfortable two-map match. piriajr topped the scoreboard with a 1.57 rating, while vsm provided stability on the tactical side, setting a positive tone for the months ahead.
Ahead of the IEM Kraków 2026 Stage 1 event — one of the first major tests of the year — both players acknowledged that paiN still has issues to iron out, particularly in team cohesion, basic execution and tactical alignment. According to vsm, the group “is not yet fully on the same page in terms of listening to ideas, implementing strategies and moving forward together.”
Practice time has been limited, with the squad training primarily in Brazil before a short European bootcamp prior to BLAST. piriajr admitted that this factor contributed to an early loss at the Bounty event but stressed that the team remains determined to improve.
The paiN team’s official opening match in Kraków is set against Astralis, a reshaped European roster, offering an early indicator of how well paiN can contend with established international lineups.
Mindset and 2026 Goals
Unlike setting rigid short-term targets, both vsm and piriajr emphasise a broader process-oriented mindset focused on consistent growth and results:
-
piriajr’s view centres on maintaining a presence in tier-1 competition and securing VRS points, which are critical for future invitations and overall standing. He is realistic about the challenge of facing world-class teams such as FURIA and Vitality, acknowledging that they are “a level above teams I’ve faced so far,” yet remains confident in paiN’s collective potential.
-
vsm stresses continuous improvement, not just results. He has spoken about the importance of demonstrating progress to fans and consistently lifting the team’s competitive floor with every game, aspiring not only toward playoff runs but eventual event victories and deep runs at big tournaments.
This patient, development-focused approach highlights paiN’s organisational philosophy for 2026: build a resilient, adaptable unit capable of holding its own in the top tier of global Counter-Strike. This is reinforced by the club publicly stating its ambition to become a benchmark for Brazilian Counter-Strike in 2026.
Context in the Brazilian Scene
paiN’s roster moves this season follow a broader pattern of reshuffling in Brazilian CS: for example, fellow Brazilian org MIBR recently parted ways with Qikert, ending a loan spell, while their new configuration has already begun winning domestic trophies.
Such developments underscore the dynamic and competitive nature of the Brazilian CS scene heading into 2026. paiN clearly hopes that its blend of experienced players (like vsm) and ascending stars (like piriajr) will not just deliver short-term results, but position the team as one of South America’s strongest and most consistent global contenders.
