Valve Introduces Major Sticker Overhaul Ahead of IEM Cologne 2026
Valve has officially released the stickers for the upcoming IEM Cologne Major 2026, but the cosmetics themselves are only part of the story. Alongside the update, the developer introduced one of the biggest changes ever made to the Counter-Strike Major economy, completely redesigning how players purchase stickers, obtain Souvenirs, and interact with the Viewer Pass system.
For the first time in CS2 Major history, traditional sticker capsules have been removed. Instead of opening randomized capsules, players can now directly purchase individual stickers through a new token-based storefront. The system allows fans to select exact player autographs, team logos, and sticker finishes without relying on luck-based openings.
The update also introduces dynamic pricing tiers depending on sticker rarity and finish. Regular stickers remain the cheapest option, while holographic and gold variants cost significantly more. According to multiple reports covering the release, Valve’s new structure is designed to give users more control over purchases while maintaining high-end collectible value for premium variants.
Another major change comes to Souvenir weapons. Valve has replaced the old random souvenir package drops with a customizable “Souvenir-O-Matic” style system. Fans can now choose specific matches and map collections when redeeming Souvenir rewards, greatly increasing transparency compared to previous Majors.
The IEM Cologne Major itself already carried historic significance before the sticker release. ESL announced the tournament last year as the first Counter-Strike Major to return to Cologne since 2016, bringing a Valve-sponsored Major back to one of the most iconic venues in the game’s history.
The event will feature 32 teams across four stages, continuing Valve’s expanded Major format introduced in recent seasons. Teams such as Vitality, Natus Vincere, Spirit, Falcons, and MOUZ are among the organizations set to compete in Cologne, with Stage 1 beginning on June 2 before the playoffs conclude later in the month.
The sticker release has also reignited community discussion around the financial importance of Major cosmetics. Sticker revenue has become one of the largest income streams for organizations and players in Counter-Strike, especially during periods where esports teams continue searching for financial sustainability outside of prize winnings alone.
Initial reactions from the community have largely focused on two things: the visual quality of the new designs and the removal of capsules. Many fans praised the cleaner sticker appearance and improved scraping effects, while others debated whether direct purchases could fundamentally change the long-term investment market surrounding Major items.
Valve has previously adjusted sticker content during Major cycles, including removing prohibited branding elements from team logos at past events, highlighting the company’s increasingly hands-on approach to regulating in-game esports cosmetics.
The IEM Cologne Major 2026 will run from June 2-21 in Cologne, Germany, and marks the first Major hosted in the city in a decade.
