Thorin Fires Back at karrigan Critics With NiKo’s CAC 2026 Final Stats

Counter-Strike analyst Duncan 'Thorin' Shields has defended Finn 'karrigan' Andersen following Team Falcons’ defeat in the grand final of the CS Asia Championships 2026, using statistics from Nikola 'NiKo' Kovač to respond to criticism aimed at the Danish in-game leader.
Falcons fell 1-3 to Legacy in the CAC 2026 grand final after winning Nuke 13-11 before losing Ancient 9-13, Mirage 6-13, and Dust2 6-13. After the match, Thorin mocked fans blaming karrigan for the loss and pointed to NiKo’s performance on the CT side throughout the series.
According to statistics highlighted by Thorin, NiKo managed only 16 CT-side kills across four maps despite holding several key defensive positions. The Bosnian star ended the final with a 0.85 rating, while karrigan posted a 0.59 rating. Match data from HLTV also showed NiKo recording 42 kills and 56 ADR during the series.
Falcons Continue Painful Grand Final Streak
The loss extended Team Falcons’ disappointing streak in championship matches. During live coverage of the tournament, HLTV noted that Falcons had now lost seven consecutive grand finals despite assembling one of the most expensive rosters in Counter-Strike 2.
Despite the defeat, karrigan remained optimistic about the future of the project. In a post-match statement, the veteran IGL admitted that both his individual level and calling could improve, but insisted the roster still has championship potential.
“This team is special. We will find the right formula for victory.”
karrigan also acknowledged the enormous pressure surrounding Falcons but said he enjoys competing under those expectations.
NiKo Previously Backed Falcons’ Move for karrigan
Before the tournament, NiKo openly supported Falcons’ decision to sign karrigan as the team’s new in-game leader. In an interview with HLTV, the Bosnian rifler explained that there were very few captains capable of leading a superstar lineup like Falcons.
“Basically, it was only karrigan or no one else.”
NiKo also stated that Falcons had been moving “in the wrong direction” before the leadership change.
Community Divided Over Falcons’ Problems
The discussion surrounding Falcons’ issues has continued across the CS2 community. Former Astralis coach Martin “trace” Heldt recently said the roster still needs more time before fans can fairly evaluate karrigan’s impact. According to trace, the Danish veteran currently has too many responsibilities while trying to rebuild the team’s structure.
Meanwhile, Russian streamer Evgeny “Raiz” criticized Falcons’ performance in the final, claiming only Ilya 'm0NESY' Osipov and kyousuke consistently looked competitive during the series against Legacy.
Falcons Under Pressure Ahead of Next CS2 Events
Team Falcons entered 2026 with expectations of becoming the best CS2 team in the world after building a star-studded lineup around NiKo, m0NESY, and karrigan. However, repeated losses in major finals have increased pressure on the roster ahead of upcoming S-tier Counter-Strike tournaments.
For now, Thorin believes criticism directed solely at karrigan ignores the broader issues shown during the CAC 2026 final — especially the underwhelming numbers posted by Falcons’ star riflers on the CT side.
