Team Spirit are champions once again after defeating Team Falcons 3-0 in the grand final of PGL Astana 2026, ending a nine-month trophy drought and securing the organization’s second consecutive title in Kazakhstan.

The CIS powerhouse delivered a composed performance throughout the best-of-five series, taking Dust2 16-12 before controlling Mirage 13-7 and closing Ancient 13-10 to complete the sweep. The victory marked Spirit’s first championship since the latter half of 2025 and reaffirmed the roster’s place among the elite teams in Counter-Strike 2 after several months without a trophy despite consistent deep playoff appearances.

The final also represented another major milestone for Danil “donk” Kryshkovets, who once again proved to be the centerpiece of Spirit’s success. The superstar rifler played a decisive role across the series and later secured the HLTV x 1xBet MVP medal for PGL Astana — his first MVP award of 2026 and first individual title in nine months. donk finished the event with a dominant 1.61 rating, continuing his reputation as one of the most impactful players in the world.

Spirit’s path to the title was particularly important considering the expectations surrounding the team after their explosive rise in 2024 and strong title-winning campaign in 2025. Although the roster remained one of the most dangerous teams in CS2, they had struggled to convert playoff runs into trophies during the first months of 2026 while organizations such as Team Vitality dominated the international scene. Vitality’s victories at events including IEM Kraków, PGL Cluj-Napoca, BLAST Open Rotterdam, and IEM Rio had placed additional pressure on Spirit to return to championship form.

Meanwhile, the grand final appearance was another encouraging sign for the rebuilt Team Falcons lineup. The organization entered Astana with renewed momentum after adding Finn “karrigan” Andersen to the roster earlier in 2026, pairing the legendary in-game leader with stars such as Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov.

Falcons reached the final after defeating FURIA in a dramatic semi-final series and later overcoming magic in convincing fashion. The event marked one of the strongest tournament runs yet for the international squad in its new era under karrigan. Despite the loss in the final, m0NESY remained one of the standout players of the tournament and consistently delivered high-impact performances throughout the playoffs.

The grand final itself showcased the firepower on both sides. On Dust2, Falcons initially looked competitive thanks to m0NESY’s aggressive AWPing, but Spirit recovered after halftime and dominated overtime situations to steal the opener. Mirage then became a showcase for Spirit’s coordination and mid-round control, with tN1R and donk leading the charge. Ancient proved more competitive, but Spirit once again handled the pressure better in the closing rounds to secure the championship without dropping a map.

For Spirit, the victory could become a turning point heading into the rest of the 2026 season. The roster had faced increasing scrutiny after failing to maintain the trophy-winning pace that made them one of the defining teams of late 2024 and 2025. Winning PGL Astana not only ended that drought, but also restored confidence ahead of upcoming international events and potential clashes with top contenders such as Vitality, NAVI, and MOUZ.

The result also strengthened Spirit’s history with the Astana event. After winning the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2025, the team has now gone back-to-back in Kazakhstan, turning PGL Astana into one of the organization’s most successful events in the CS2 era.
