Rotterdam Set to Host BLAST Open 2026 Season 1 Playoffs
BLAST has unveiled Rotterdam, Netherlands, as the location for the playoff stage of BLAST Open 2026 Season 1. The finals—featuring six of the world's top CS:GO teams—will take place at Rotterdam Ahoy from March 27 to 29, 2026, drawing expected attendance in the thousands and capping off the event's $1.1 million prize pool.
The tournament kicks off in a studio setting in Copenhagen, with 16 teams competing in the group stage. Of those, 12 will receive invitations via VRS ranking, while the remaining four teams will advance through online qualifiers. This marks a return to a full LAN format—a shift from the BLAST Open London group stage, which ran online and prompted team Falcons to withdraw due to concerns that the event’s VRS impact did not justify the required time commitment.
Andrew Haworth, BLAST’s SVP of Ecosystems, expressed his enthusiasm:
“We’re incredibly excited to bring the BLAST Premier Open to Rotterdam, taking BLAST to a brand‑new country. The Netherlands has a passionate esports fanbase, and the Ahoy Arena is the perfect stage… Fans can expect world‑class Counter‑Strike, unforgettable moments, and the signature BLAST production quality they have come to know.”
Rotterdam Ahoy is no stranger to large-scale esports productions, having previously hosted events like the 2019 League of Legends European Championship (LEC) Spring Finals, DreamHack Open Rotterdam 2019, and ESL Challenger Rotterdam 2022.
Ticketing details have also been confirmed: a presale begins on October 23 at 11:00 (local time), followed by general sales starting October 24.
Additional Context & Highlights:
Group vs. Playoff Format: Group stages in Copenhagen maintain an online throughput, while the playoffs revert to LAN, likely increasing competitive integrity and fan engagement.
Falcons’ Withdrawal: Falcons’ decision to skip highlights the ongoing tension between potential reward and logistical commitment, especially when VRS influence is perceived as insufficient.
Growing Esports Hub: Rotterdam’s existing reputation as a dependable venue contributes to BLAST’s strategy of international expansion and delivering high-production-value esports experiences.
