Pimp: zonic Built the Foundation of Today’s Team Vitality

Counter-Strike analyst Jacob “Pimp” Winneche believes that legendary coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen played a crucial role in building the foundation of the modern Team Vitality roster.

Speaking on the Last Free Nation Counter-Strike podcast, Pimp discussed zonic’s future with Team Falcons and explained why criticism of the Danish coach may overlook his long-term influence on elite Counter-Strike teams.

Pimp: It Would Be Unfair to Fire zonic Too Quickly

According to Pimp, calls to remove zonic as Falcons head coach would be premature, especially considering the team’s competitive results.

“I would question firing zonic in the offseason. I think it would be unfair because Falcons were getting closer to their goal,” Pimp said.

The analyst noted that Falcons reached top-three status toward the end of the season, which indicates they were already close to competing for major titles.

He also reminded fans that dominant teams often require time to reach their peak:

“People forget that four months ago Team Vitality didn’t look unbeatable either. If you’re in the top three and the best team can be beaten, then you’re not far from winning tournaments.”

“zonic Laid the Foundation” of Vitality’s Success

Pimp highlighted zonic’s coaching philosophy and its long-term impact on Vitality’s current structure.

“If you look at zonic’s career, he succeeded with teams like Astralis that relied on teamwork, synergy and clutches rather than just star players,” Pimp explained.

He added that the Danish coach played a key role in shaping the system that later powered Vitality’s success.

“I think zonic laid the foundation in Team Vitality that we see today. I believe apEX learned a lot from him, and the current Vitality might not exist without zonic.”

Vitality later became one of the strongest teams in Counter-Strike, winning major titles and consistently competing at the top level of international tournaments.

Falcons’ Superteam Could Clash With zonic’s Coaching Style

Pimp also suggested that the Falcons roster construction may not perfectly match zonic’s preferred coaching philosophy.

Unlike the structured team-play style that defined Astralis during its dominant era, Falcons assembled a roster built around superstar talent.

According to Pimp:

“I don’t think zonic wanted a superteam. That doesn’t really fit his style of leadership.”

However, he also acknowledged the reality of Falcons’ ambitions: the organization was always expected to build a roster around major star players rather than long-term development projects.

The Deadline: IEM Cologne Major 2026

Despite defending zonic’s reputation, Pimp admitted that results still matter.

He believes the Falcons coach could face serious pressure if the team fails to improve before the IEM Cologne Major 2026 and the upcoming summer break.

“If Falcons don’t figure things out before Cologne and the summer break, then yes — he might have to leave,” Pimp said.

Still, he stressed that such a decision would be about team fit, not about questioning zonic’s legacy as one of Counter-Strike’s most successful coaches.

zonic’s Legacy in Counter-Strike

zonic has been coaching Falcons since 2023, already helping the organization secure a title at PGL Bucharest 2025 and several podium finishes at major events.

Before joining Falcons, he achieved historic success with:

Astralis, where he won four CS:GO Major championships

Team Vitality, where he also captured a Major title and helped build a championship roster

These achievements cement his reputation as one of the most influential coaches in Counter-Strike history.

What This Means for Falcons

The debate around zonic reflects a broader question in modern Counter-Strike:

Can superstar rosters succeed without the structured team-play systems that defined past dynasties like Astralis?

Pimp’s comments suggest that Falcons may still be searching for the balance between individual firepower and the coordinated style that made zonic’s previous teams legendary.
