PGL Confirms Cluj-Napoca as Second Stop of 2027 Circuit with $1M Event at BTarena
PGL has officially revealed full details for its second Counter-Strike 2 tournament of 2027, confirming that Cluj-Napoca will once again serve as a key stop on the organizer’s expanding international circuit. The event is scheduled to take place from February 11–21, continuing the tournament’s established position as one of the early-season highlights on the calendar.
As with previous editions in 2025 and 2026, the Romanian city will host the decisive playoff stage at the iconic BTarena — a venue with deep Counter-Strike history, having previously staged the DreamHack Cluj-Napoca Major in 2015.
Part of a growing 2027 PGL circuit
The Cluj-Napoca event will be the second of six tournaments planned by PGL for 2027, underlining the organizer’s continued push to build a robust independent circuit in the post-Valve partnership era. Earlier announcements confirmed that the season will begin in Bucharest (January 17–24), positioning Cluj-Napoca as a direct follow-up event in February.
This expansion aligns with PGL’s long-term strategy to operate multiple large-scale events annually, while also contributing to the broader CS2 ecosystem — including production responsibilities such as English-language broadcasts for events like the CS Asia Championships.
$1 million prize pool and VRS incentives
PGL Cluj-Napoca 2027 will feature a total prize pool of $1,000,000, split evenly between player winnings and organizational (club) revenue shares — a structure increasingly common in modern Counter-Strike events.
In addition, PGL will distribute $300,000 in VRS (Valve Regional Standings) bonuses. The top five teams in the VRS ranking will each receive $60,000 for accepting their invitations, reinforcing participation from elite teams and strengthening competitive integrity.
The prize distribution remains top-heavy, with $280,000 awarded to the champions, followed by decreasing payouts through the standings.
Qualification and invite system
The 16-team event will primarily rely on direct invitations based on global VRS rankings. Fourteen teams will receive invites on November 2, 2026, reflecting their standing in the global competitive hierarchy.
The remaining two slots will be determined through a European qualification pathway. A closed qualifier, scheduled for November 15–18, will feature six invited teams alongside two squads advancing from an open qualifier, ensuring opportunities for emerging teams to break into the main event.
Cluj-Napoca’s long-term role in CS2
The continued selection of Cluj-Napoca reinforces its growing importance in the Counter-Strike ecosystem. Earlier announcements confirmed a multi-year agreement between PGL and the city, securing events through at least 2029 and establishing BTarena as a recurring destination for top-tier CS2 competition.
Since its debut, the Cluj-Napoca series has rapidly increased in prestige, evolving from a relatively modest lineup in 2025 to attracting nearly all top-ranked teams by 2026. This upward trajectory positions the 2027 edition as one of the premier non-Major events of the season.
Summary
PGL Cluj-Napoca 2027 will serve as a central pillar of the organizer’s six-event circuit, combining a $1 million prize pool, VRS-driven invites, and a proven arena setting. With its consistent February slot and growing competitive significance, the tournament continues to solidify Cluj-Napoca as one of Counter-Strike’s key destinations in the modern CS2 era.
