MOUZ Survive Gentle Mates Scare in First Match With jL and xelex
Fresh off major roster changes, MOUZ began their campaign at PGL Astana 2026 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Gentle Mates, overcoming several shaky moments in the first official appearance of their new lineup.
The series marked the debut of former Natus Vincere rifler Justinas Lekavicius and young Slovak talent Adrian Vincze in MOUZ colors after the organization reshaped its roster ahead of the summer season. The new-look squad managed to secure the win, but not without exposing some early communication and structural issues that are expected from a team still adjusting to significant changes.
Despite the close scoreline, there were encouraging signs for MOUZ throughout the series. Dorian Berman delivered a standout performance and finished as the server’s highest-rated player with a 1.52 rating across the three maps, while jL adapted well to several anchor positions and contributed heavily with utility and supportive play.
The series opened on Nuke, where MOUZ narrowly secured a 16-12 overtime victory. Gentle Mates repeatedly threatened to steal the map behind strong performances from Antonio Martinez and Alejandro Masanet, but MOUZ’s experience eventually prevailed in the extra rounds.
Things quickly fell apart for MOUZ on Mirage. Gentle Mates dominated the map from the start and punished the European side’s loose defensive setups en route to a convincing 13-4 win. The map highlighted several coordination problems within MOUZ’s revamped roster, particularly in mid-round situations where the team often looked disconnected.
However, MOUZ regained control on the decider Ancient. After a strong CT side, they comfortably closed the map 13-5 to avoid what would have been a disastrous opening loss. xelex, despite an inconsistent overall series, showed flashes of the individual skill that made him one of the most discussed young prospects in Europe.
The victory gives MOUZ a positive start at PGL Astana, but the match also reinforced that the team remains a work in progress following the offseason changes. The addition of jL came after his successful stint with NAVI, while xelex was brought in as a long-term developmental piece for the organization’s future core. Their integration will be one of the key storylines surrounding MOUZ during the upcoming months.
For Gentle Mates, the loss was another example of the squad’s ability to challenge top opposition despite inconsistent results throughout 2026. The Spanish-led lineup has shown promising form at several events this year, including qualification campaigns and respectable performances against established tier-one teams, but they continue to struggle converting competitive series into signature wins.
