Magixx on Team Spirit IGL Role: “I’m Learning Fast” Amid CS2 Leadership Transition

Team Spirit’s new captain opens up on replacing chopper, early results, and challenges in CS2

Team Spirit’s new in-game leader Boris “magixx” Vorobiev says he is rapidly adapting to his leadership role in CS2, following the departure of longtime captain Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov.

In a recent interview during IEM Rio 2026, magixx addressed comparisons with his predecessor and shared insights into his development as an IGL.

“I feel like I’m learning pretty fast,” magixx said.
“But some aspects of being a captain may still take more time.”

Magixx Replaces Chopper as Team Spirit IGL

The leadership change came in December 2025, when Team Spirit restructured its roster by benching chopper and promoting magixx to the captain role.

The move marked a major shift for the team, as chopper had been a central figure in Spirit’s tactical identity for years.

Despite the pressure, magixx emphasized that becoming a successful IGL is not only about calling strategies:

Adaptability

Game understanding

Ability to learn quickly

According to him, these factors define success in the role more than experience alone.

Team Spirit Results Under Magixx

Since the leadership change, Team Spirit has shown solid but inconsistent results on the CS2 stage:

3rd place at IEM Kraków 2026

Top 8 finishes at multiple tier-one events

While not dominant, these performances suggest that Spirit remains competitive during the transition period.

Magixx himself previously noted that the team still has untapped potential:

“We still have something to play with — we are not washed up.”

CS2 Community Reaction: Support vs Criticism

Magixx’s promotion has sparked debate across the CS2 scene.

Support: “Give Him Time”

Streamer and former pro Aunkere urged fans to be patient:

“You need to believe in magixx and help him раскрыть his potential as a captain — not hate him.”

Skepticism: Experience Concerns

On the other hand, analyst hooch pointed out key challenges:

Lack of IGL experience

Leadership personality differences

Difficulty balancing friendship and authority

“Sometimes a captain needs to stop being a friend and point out mistakes.”

Internal Confidence from Team Spirit

Spirit’s stand-in coach Dmitry “S0tF1k” Forostyanko supported the decision:

“If he was chosen as captain, then the tendencies were there.”

He also praised magixx’s:

Tactical ideas

Opponent reading

Utility usage

What’s Next for Team Spirit in CS2?

The transition period for Team Spirit is far from over. While early results show promise, the real test will be consistency at top-tier tournaments.

For now, magixx remains confident in his growth trajectory as an IGL — even if the process is still ongoing.

With mixed reactions from the community and steady performances on the server, Team Spirit’s evolution under new leadership will be one of the key storylines in competitive CS2 throughout 2026.
