KSCERATO: Break After EPL Was Crucial as FURIA Reset Ahead of BLAST Rotterdam

FURIA kicked off their BLAST Open Rotterdam campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over TYLOO, marking a positive return to competition after a disappointing run at ESL Pro League. Despite some struggles on Overpass, where they nearly let a large lead slip, the Brazilian side ultimately secured the win and showed signs of recovery following their recent setback.

The match was particularly significant as it came after FURIA’s elimination in Stage 2 of ESL Pro League, where they failed to reach the playoffs — ending a streak of ten consecutive events with playoff appearances. Their exit came after a loss to Astralis in the decisive 2-2 pool, highlighting issues that had been building within the team.

In the aftermath of that result, Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato emphasized the importance of stepping away from the game briefly. According to him, the break allowed the team to reset mentally and regain focus after a difficult tournament. Even though FURIA entered BLAST Rotterdam with limited practice, he downplayed concerns, suggesting that the rest period was more valuable than additional preparation.

Reflecting on their ESL Pro League performance, KSCERATO acknowledged that multiple factors contributed to the team’s struggles. Among them were communication problems and experimental tactical adjustments that did not work as intended. He also noted the potential absence of in-game leader Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo as a complicating factor, although he made it clear that this should not be used as an excuse. FalleN remains a central figure in the lineup, often described as the backbone of the team due to his leadership and experience.

This perspective aligns with KSCERATO’s long-standing view on improvement and preparation. In previous interviews, he has repeatedly highlighted the importance of taking time to analyze gameplay, study opponents, and mentally prepare between events. He has pointed out that breaks can be used productively to refine strategies and return stronger in subsequent tournaments.

FURIA’s recent inconsistency contrasts with the team’s form during late 2025, when they enjoyed one of the most successful periods in their history. At that time, they secured multiple trophies in quick succession and established themselves as one of the top teams in the world. However, even during that peak, KSCERATO stressed the need for humility and continuous focus, noting that in top-tier Counter-Strike, any opponent can pose a serious threat.

Now, heading into BLAST Rotterdam, the Brazilian squad appears to be in a transitional phase. The victory over TYLOO suggests that the team is regaining stability, but their narrow moments on certain maps indicate there is still work to be done. Communication and consistency remain key areas of focus as they attempt to return to their previous level.

KSCERATO’s comments underline a broader theme within professional Counter-Strike: maintaining peak performance is not only about constant practice but also about managing fatigue and mental resilience. For FURIA, the decision to prioritize rest after EPL may prove to be a turning point if it allows them to rebuild confidence and cohesion.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on whether this reset translates into deeper playoff runs. With experienced leadership, a proven core, and one of Brazil’s most consistent riflers in KSCERATO, FURIA still possess the tools needed to compete at the highest level — provided they can address the issues that surfaced in recent events.
