Inner Circle Receive Late Invite to PGL Bucharest After Imperial Withdraw to Focus on Major Qualification

European squad Inner Circle have been granted a last-minute invitation to PGL Bucharest 2026 after Brazilian team Imperial withdrew from the event to focus on improving their chances in the ongoing Major qualification race. The change was announced by tournament organizers shortly before the start of the $1.25 million LAN tournament in Romania.

The decision reshapes the lineup for one of the upcoming high-profile Counter-Strike 2 events, giving Inner Circle an unexpected opportunity to compete on the international stage.

Imperial step aside to prioritize Major ranking

Imperial originally secured their place at PGL Bucharest by winning the South American closed qualifier, earning a spot at the main event through regional competition.

However, the organization later chose to withdraw from the tournament after evaluating its impact on the team’s campaign for Major qualification. According to a statement given to Dust2 Brasil, the Brazilian side decided to prioritize tournaments that directly influence the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) and the race for invitations to the next Counter-Strike Major.

The reasoning behind the withdrawal was tied to the timing of the event:

  • PGL Bucharest concludes after the ranking cut-off date used to determine Major invitations.

  • As a result, points earned at the event would not affect Imperial’s standing in the qualification race.

With the Major race intensifying across the global CS2 calendar, teams have increasingly prioritized tournaments that directly contribute ranking points.

Inner Circle earn unexpected second chance

Imperial’s withdrawal opened a vacancy at the Romanian LAN, which was subsequently filled by Inner Circle, a team that had narrowly missed qualification earlier in the process.

Inner Circle previously competed in the Europe Closed Qualifier for PGL Bucharest, where they reached the grand final but lost to FOKUS, finishing second and missing out on the direct qualification spot.

That result initially left the squad just short of the main event. Imperial’s decision, however, allowed them to step in as a replacement and secure a late invitation.

The opportunity comes despite internal roster uncertainty within the team. Inner Circle recently benched and transfer-listed their AWPer Artem “Flierax” Khioara, and the organization has not yet announced who will replace him for the upcoming tournament.

Imperial shift focus to other competitions

While skipping PGL Bucharest, Imperial have already committed to other upcoming events that could help improve their competitive standing.

Among the tournaments the team has registered for are:

  • NSTLGA Washington (March 20–22)

  • FERJEE In House (March 26–30)

The Brazilian squad also attempted to sign up for Circuit X Mayhem, although the event’s organizer later stated that the registration process would need to be repeated.

These tournaments may provide Imperial with valuable opportunities to earn ranking points before the Major invitation cutoff.

A major opportunity for the Ukrainian organization

For Inner Circle, the invitation represents a significant milestone. The team currently sits outside the top tier of the global rankings and has largely competed in qualifiers and regional tournaments.

Participating in PGL Bucharest, one of the year’s notable international LAN events, will allow the squad to test themselves against stronger opposition and potentially gain visibility within the competitive scene.

Given their near-miss in the European qualifier and the recent roster adjustments, the tournament could serve as an important proving ground for the lineup.
