Stage 1 reaches its last hurdle as six teams battle for three Cologne Major spots

The final round of Stage 1 at the IEM Cologne Major 2026 is set, with only three places in Stage 2 still available and six teams left alive in the 2-2 bracket. After several days of Swiss-system play, the opening stage has narrowed the field to TYLOO, Lynn Vision, Liquid, FlyQuest, NRG and BIG, all of whom now face one decisive best-of-three series for survival.
Stage 1 began with 16 teams competing for eight qualification spots. The format gave little room for recovery: the opening rounds used best-of-one games, while advancement and elimination matches moved to best-of-three series. That structure has now produced a final day in which every remaining match is both a promotion opportunity and an elimination game.
The first matchup will be an all-Chinese clash between TYLOO and Lynn Vision. It is a difficult draw for Chinese Counter-Strike fans, as one domestic side is guaranteed to continue while the other will leave the Major. TYLOO arrive with the chance to complete a comeback from an 0-2 start, while Lynn Vision dropped into the last-chance bracket after a one-sided loss to MIBR in the previous round. Although both teams come from the same region, HLTV noted that they had only met once earlier in 2026, when TYLOO won a close 2-0 series in February.
Liquid will then face FlyQuest in another elimination series. The matchup adds an extra storyline because Justin “jks” Savage is facing his former organization and several former teammates. The two sides had not played each other in 2026 before this match, but Liquid won both of their meetings in 2025. Liquid’s run has been unstable: earlier in Stage 1, they were pushed to the brink after losing to MIBR in the 1-1 pool, while FlyQuest also had to fight through pressure after falling into danger in the Swiss bracket.
The last match of the day will see NRG take on BIG. For BIG, the stakes are especially high: the German-majority lineup is playing at a home Major in Cologne and will be trying to keep local hopes alive. They had already missed one chance to qualify directly when GamerLegion beat them in the 2-1 pool, while NRG also dropped into the 2-2 bracket after losing to M80. BLAST’s match data also lists GamerLegion’s 2-0 win over BIG in that advancement series, confirming why BIG entered the final round under pressure.
The road to this point was shaped by several earlier results. M80 started Stage 1 with a strong win over Lynn Vision, FlyQuest opened with a narrow overtime victory against SINNERS, and THUNDER dOWNUNDER surprised MIBR in the first round. Later, MIBR recovered and defeated Liquid in the 1-1 pool, while BIG and NRG moved into the 2-1 pool by beating THUNDER dOWNUNDER and FlyQuest respectively.
The final Stage 1 schedule is:
TYLOO vs Lynn Vision — June 5, 14:00
Liquid vs FlyQuest — June 5, 16:30
NRG vs BIG — June 5, 19:00
Together, these matches close the first phase of the Cologne Major. The winners will join the teams already qualified for Stage 2, while the losers will exit before reaching the next Swiss stage. For TYLOO and Lynn Vision, the final day guarantees Chinese representation but also an unavoidable domestic elimination. For Liquid and FlyQuest, it is a test of resilience after inconsistent starts. For BIG, it is a last chance to extend a home Major run in front of a German crowd.
