HOTU, Gentle Mates & RED Canids Secure Final Slots in IEM Rio 2026 Lineup
The Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio 2026 Counter-Strike 2 event now has its full participant list after the conclusion of the closed qualifiers this week. The last three spots in the 16-team main event were claimed by HOTU, Gentle Mates, and RED Canids.
Qualifiers and How Each Team Qualified
Global Closed Qualifier
The final European/Global spots were decided in a closed qualifying bracket featuring a mix of invited challengers and strong regional teams. In this bracket:
-
HOTU secured their place by defeating BetBoom in the upper-bracket final. Their star performance came from David “n0rb3r7” Danielyan, who posted exceptional numbers to secure a 2:0 win and the first available Rio spot.
-
Gentle Mates, ranked around #22 globally and featuring players like alex, mopoz, sausol, dav1g, and MartinezSa, navigated the lower bracket after an earlier loss. They took down BetBoom in a hard-fought series to claim the second Rio berth.
Across the qualifier, notable teams such as fnatic, BC.Game, and FUT were knocked out earlier, clearing the path for HOTU and Gentle Mates to advance.
Americas Closed Qualifier
In the South American bracket, RED Canids progressed through a gauntlet of regional challengers including Sharks, Imperial, and BESTIA. In the decisive qualifier final, RED Canids claimed the last main event spot with a 2:1 series victory over BESTIA.
The RED Canids roster — with players like dav1deuS, drop, chayJESUS, kauez, and history — has been steadily improving and will now debut on one of CS2’s biggest stages.
