HLTV Inducts cogu into Hall of Fame, Honoring Brazilian Counter-Strike Pioneer

HLTV has officially inducted Raphael “cogu” Camargo into its Hall of Fame, recognizing one of the most influential figures in early Counter-Strike history. The Brazilian AWPer becomes part of the 2025 class and notably stands as the first non-European player to receive this honor, highlighting both his individual achievements and his broader impact on the global scene.
Cogu’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the rise of Brazilian Counter-Strike. At a time when the competitive landscape was dominated by European and North American teams, he played a pivotal role in establishing Brazil as a serious contender. His performances with Made in Brazil (MIBR) helped bring international recognition to a then underdeveloped regional scene, laying the foundation for future generations of talent.
Long before players like Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo became global stars, cogu had already demonstrated that Brazil could produce world-class competitors. His influence extended beyond results: he inspired an entire generation of South American players and contributed to shaping a competitive ecosystem that would later produce Major champions and consistently top-ranked teams.
From an individual standpoint, cogu was widely regarded as one of the finest AWPers of the 2000s. Known for his precision and composure, he excelled in high-pressure situations and was particularly effective with both the AWP and pistols, especially the USP. His consistent performances and ability to deliver in crucial moments earned him respect among peers and opponents alike.
His career peaked during the Counter-Strike 1.6 era, most notably with a world championship victory at ESWC 2006—one of the most significant achievements in Brazilian Counter-Strike history. Alongside that triumph, he also secured titles in the CPL World Tour, further cementing his status as one of the most accomplished players of his time.
Beyond his playing career, which spanned from 2001 to 2017, cogu remained active within the scene in various roles. He briefly competed in Counter-Strike: Source and later transitioned into coaching, working with teams such as MIBR, O PLANO, and 00NATION. His continued involvement demonstrated a long-term commitment to developing Brazilian Counter-Strike both on and off the server.
The Hall of Fame itself is a relatively new initiative by HLTV, launched in 2024 to honor the most iconic and influential figures in Counter-Strike history. Each year, a panel of experts selects a small group of retired players whose careers left a lasting impact on the game. Cogu joins other legendary names such as Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer and Yegor “markeloff” Markelov in the 2025 class, following the inaugural group of Swedish greats inducted the year before.
His inclusion also reflects a broader recognition of Counter-Strike’s global evolution. While early Hall of Fame selections were dominated by European players, cogu’s induction acknowledges the importance of regions outside Europe in shaping the modern competitive landscape. Brazil, now a permanent fixture among elite Counter-Strike nations, owes much of its early international breakthrough to his contributions.
Ultimately, cogu’s Hall of Fame induction is not only a tribute to his individual skill and achievements but also to his role as a pioneer. By helping to elevate Brazilian Counter-Strike during its formative years, he ensured that the region would become one of the most influential forces in the game for decades to come.
