HEROIC eliminate PARIVISION to secure ESL Pro League Season 23 Stage 2 spot

HEROIC delivered one of the biggest surprises of ESL Pro League Season 23 Stage 1 by defeating PARIVISION 2–0 in the decisive Swiss round, securing their place in Stage 2 and eliminating one of the tournament favorites. The match took place in the 2–2 pool, where teams with identical records fight for the final advancement slots. With the victory, HEROIC continued their campaign in the tournament, while PARIVISION exited after a dramatic collapse following a strong start. 

The result was particularly shocking given the circumstances surrounding both teams entering the series. PARIVISION arrived at the event ranked among the top teams in the world and initially looked poised to qualify comfortably after beginning the Swiss stage with two consecutive wins. However, their campaign quickly unraveled as they suffered back-to-back defeats against Legacy and Monte, forcing them into the final elimination match against HEROIC. 

HEROIC, meanwhile, came into the matchup as underdogs. At the time of the match they were ranked significantly lower in the global standings than their opponents, but they managed to produce a composed and disciplined performance when it mattered most. The team also entered the series with a temporary solution in the AWP role, using Simon “yxngstxr” Boije in the position, which made the victory even more impressive considering the circumstances.

Decisive series in the 2–2 pool

The elimination series was played as a best-of-three, with the winner advancing to Stage 2 of the competition while the losing side would leave the tournament. The veto process led to Inferno as HEROIC’s pick and Dust2 as PARIVISION’s choice, with Mirage remaining as the potential decider. 

HEROIC immediately set the tone on Inferno, delivering a dominant performance. They built momentum early in the map and maintained control throughout the game, closing it out with a convincing 13–5 victory. The Danish organization carried that momentum into the second map, Dust2, where they once again outplayed PARIVISION to complete the 2–0 sweep and end the series without the need for a third map. 

The loss marked a bitter end to PARIVISION’s run in the tournament. After starting Stage 1 with a perfect 2–0 record, expectations were high that the team would progress without difficulty. Instead, they suffered three consecutive defeats in the advancement matches, first falling to Legacy and then Monte before ultimately losing the final qualification match to HEROIC. 

A dramatic collapse for PARIVISION

PARIVISION’s elimination is notable not only because of their early success in the Swiss stage but also due to their overall standing in the global rankings. At the time of the match, the squad featuring players such as Jame, BELCHONOKK, nota, xiELO, and zweih was ranked among the top five teams in the world. 

The team had demonstrated strong form in earlier matches of the event as well. They opened the tournament with a convincing victory over SemperFi, showing strong individual performances and effective tactical execution. That result initially reinforced their status as one of the favorites to move deeper into the competition. 

However, the momentum quickly shifted. Legacy were the first to halt PARIVISION’s perfect run with a hard-fought 2–0 win, securing their own qualification for the next stage of ESL Pro League. Shortly afterward, Monte also upset the squad in a close three-map series, leaving PARIVISION with one final chance to stay alive in the tournament. 

The decisive loss to HEROIC ultimately sealed their fate, turning what had started as a promising run into a surprising early exit.

HEROIC move forward

For HEROIC, the victory represents an important step forward after a period of mixed results in recent events. Earlier in the year, the team had struggled to find consistent form, including defeats in other tournaments such as IEM competitions where they were eliminated in earlier stages. 

By overcoming PARIVISION in such a high-pressure match, HEROIC demonstrated resilience and the ability to perform against stronger opposition. The win secured their progression to Stage 2 of ESL Pro League Season 23, where they will face tougher competition as the tournament moves toward the playoff phase.

The result also serves as a reminder of how volatile the Swiss format can be. Teams need three wins to advance but are eliminated after three losses, meaning that a promising start can quickly unravel if a squad fails to maintain momentum. PARIVISION’s run in Stage 1 perfectly illustrated this dynamic: from a 2–0 record and a seemingly safe path forward, they ultimately dropped three matches in a row and were knocked out of the tournament. 

With their victory, HEROIC join the list of teams advancing from Stage 1 and continue their pursuit of the ESL Pro League Season 23 title, while PARIVISION are left to regroup after a disappointing end to what had once looked like a deep tournament run.
