HeavyGod Commits Future to G2 with Multi-Year Extension Amid New Era for CS2 Roster

HeavyGod Signs Long-Term Extension with G2
G2 Esports have announced a multi-year contract extension for Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko, securing one of the team's most important pieces for the foreseeable future. The new deal comes less than two years after the Israeli-Ukrainian rifler joined the organization and reflects both his individual impact and G2’s confidence in its long-term Counter-Strike 2 project.
The extension represents another significant step in G2’s roster-building strategy as the organization continues reshaping its lineup following the departures of several star players over the last 18 months. By locking down HeavyGod early, G2 ensures stability around a player who has become one of the team's most consistent performers.
From Cloud9 Replacement to Core Franchise Player
HeavyGod arrived at G2 in January 2025 after being signed from Cloud9 as the replacement for Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, who left the organization to join Falcons. At the time, many viewed the move as one of the most difficult roster transitions in Counter-Strike, given NiKo’s status as one of the greatest riflers in the game's history.
Despite the pressure, HeavyGod quickly established himself within the lineup. Before joining G2, he had impressed during a seven-month stint with Cloud9, posting a 1.16 HLTV rating across 73 maps and playing a crucial role in the team's qualification for the Perfect World Shanghai Major. His performances at the European RMR, where he recorded a 1.32 rating, significantly boosted his reputation as one of the most promising riflers on the international scene.
Rather than attempting to directly replicate NiKo’s role, G2 restructured responsibilities around the roster. HeavyGod primarily took over anchor duties on the CT side, allowing Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa to move into positions previously occupied by NiKo. The approach helped ease the transition and maximize the strengths of both players.
Becoming a Key Figure in G2’s Evolution
What began as a high-pressure replacement signing has evolved into a cornerstone partnership.
HeavyGod’s consistency, firepower and adaptability helped him become an integral part of G2's system. His strong mechanical skill and reliability across multiple positions made him one of the roster's most valuable assets as the team navigated a period of significant change.
The organization’s decision to extend his contract demonstrates how highly G2 values his contribution. Multi-year agreements are typically reserved for players viewed as foundational pieces, and HeavyGod now clearly falls into that category.
Extension Comes After Major G2 Roster Changes
The timing of the announcement is particularly notable.
Since HeavyGod joined the team, G2 has undergone another major transformation. In April 2025, superstar AWPer Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov departed the organization for Falcons, marking the end of one of Counter-Strike’s most celebrated player-team partnerships.
The organization later rebuilt around a new core, adding players such as Matúš “MATYS” Šimko and Álvaro “SunPayus” García, while also bringing in Finnish coach Eetu “sAw” Saha as part of a broader restructuring effort.
With NiKo and m0NESY both gone, G2 faced the challenge of establishing a new identity. Retaining HeavyGod long-term signals that management sees him as one of the central figures capable of leading the team into its next competitive cycle.
Reward for Consistent Development
HeavyGod’s rise to the top level of Counter-Strike has been gradual but steady.
After earlier stints with organizations such as Endpoint, OG and Cloud9, he steadily built a reputation as a reliable rifler capable of performing against elite competition. His progression through several international teams ultimately earned him a move to G2, where he has continued to develop into a top-tier player.
At just 23 years old, HeavyGod still has significant room for growth, making the extension an investment not only in current performance but also in future potential.
A Clear Message About G2’s Future
By extending HeavyGod’s contract, G2 is sending a clear message about its long-term ambitions.
The organization has experienced significant roster turnover since the departures of NiKo and m0NESY, but rather than pursuing short-term fixes, it appears focused on building a sustainable core around younger talent. HeavyGod’s new deal provides continuity at a time when stability is increasingly valuable in elite Counter-Strike.
As G2 continues competing against the world's best teams, the extension ensures that one of its most dependable riflers will remain part of the project for years to come. For HeavyGod, it is recognition of the progress he has made since arriving from Cloud9. For G2, it is a commitment to a player they believe can help define the organization's next chapter.
