Frozen Reflects: “It’s Been a Messy Year – We’re Just Trying to Get Back to the Top”
After FaZe’s win over 3DMAX at FISSURE Playground 2, Slovakian rifler David “frozen” Čerňanský offered insight into what’s gone wrong this year — and how the team hopes to turn things around.
A Tough Year for FaZe
Frozen admitted that 2025 has not gone according to plan:
“It has been a messy year as well. Lots of changes, steps back, some steps forward as well. But yeah, we’re just trying to get back to the top, you know?”
In addition to inconsistent results, FaZe has undergone multiple roster changes. One major shift was the signing of Jakub “jcobbb” Pietruszewski, who joined from Poland and replaced Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski in August. Frozen praised jcobbb’s adaptation:
“I feel like jcobbb is adapting very well. I mean, he’s shooting hard, he’s not afraid to take duels. He’s just running in and killing people, which is great to see. It has been a pleasure so far to see him doing this well, and I mean, honestly, he’s just gonna do better with every tournament and every game.”
Also, Helvijs “broky” Saukants made a return to the starting lineup earlier this season after being benched, and has expressed renewed energy in helping the squad rebound.
Key Matches & Performance Issues
Some pivotal moments:
FaZe lost their IEM Dallas opener to Liquid, showing cracks early in major LAN events.
They were eliminated by Heroic in the lower bracket at the same event.
Despite the roster changes, their result at BLAST Open 2025 was disappointing: FaZe were knocked out by G2 in the quarterfinals. While they pushed Map 2 into overtime, the overall performance didn’t meet expectations.
A recent Stat Check article pointed out that jcobbb seems to be restoring some of FaZe’s early-round threat, but that other aspects — especially their late-round decision making — remain weak points.
Looking Forward
Despite the turbulence, FaZe remain focused on winning trophies. Frozen was clear about their mindset:
“We’re coming for the trophy, you know? It’s always important, we just want to win the trophy.”
The organization’s multiple changes this season — swapping in jcobbb, moving EliGE to the bench, reinstating broky — suggest they’re still searching for the right formula.
Frozen declined to comment further on the upcoming roster change involving Twistzz, saying simply: “No comment.”
