FaZe Miss IEM Cologne 2026 Major After BIG Loss — SINNERS Secure Historic Qualification
FaZe Clan will miss the IEM Cologne 2026 Major after a निर्णative 1-2 loss to BIG in the HLC Belgrade PRO grand final, ending their last шанс to qualify via the Valve Regional Standings (VRS). The defeat confirms SINNERS as the final European team to qualify for the biggest Counter-Strike 2 tournament of the summer.
The IEM Cologne 2026 Major, one of the most prestigious events in CS2, will take place from June 11–21 in Cologne.
FaZe’s Risky Gamble Backfires
FaZe entered HLC Belgrade PRO as a last-ditch effort to collect crucial VRS points after falling short in earlier events. Their struggles began after a disappointing finish at DraculaN Season 6, leaving them outside the qualification cutoff.
In a bold move, the team prioritized Belgrade over PGL Bucharest, even forfeiting opening matches there and starting with a 0-2 record.
For a moment, the gamble seemed to work.
FaZe dominated the bracket with wins over BEE, CYBERSHOKE, and others to reach the final. On Dust2, Finn Andersen delivered a standout performance, posting a 2.32 rating in a crushing 13-3 victory.
However, the momentum collapsed:
Overpass: BIG win 13-11
Anubis: BIG dominate 13-3
The reverse sweep ended FaZe’s Major hopes.
BIG Deliver Under Pressure
For BIG, the victory was more than just a trophy.
The German squad had already secured enough VRS points to qualify after their semi-final win, but defeating FaZe cemented their position and eliminated one of the biggest names in Counter-Strike from the race.
Their late-season consistency highlights how critical smaller LAN events have become in the modern qualification system.
SINNERS Qualify for First-Ever Major
The biggest winners of the weekend were SINNERS, who clinched their first Major appearance in organization history.
Their qualification was largely built on a breakthrough victory at BC.Game Masters, where they defeated top teams including G2 and BIG.
After that win, AWPer Mădălin-Andrei Mirea said:
“The mentality should be the same — just beat everybody, play our game, and enjoy it.”
Despite later struggles, including visible pressure in follow-up events, SINNERS held their position in the rankings and ultimately benefited from FaZe’s failure to win in Belgrade.
IGL Sebastian Daňo admitted:
“The pressure of thinking about the Major got to us.”
karrigan Reacts to FaZe’s Collapse
FaZe’s struggles throughout 2026 had already been acknowledged internally.
Earlier this season, karrigan openly criticized the team’s performance, stating:
“The year has been completely shit… results are not good enough.”
Those concerns ultimately proved justified, as FaZe failed to secure enough results when it mattered most.
VRS System Criticism Grows
FaZe’s elimination also reignited criticism of the Valve Regional Standings system, which has forced teams into intense scheduling decisions and last-minute tournament grinds.
Sebastian Maloș described the situation as:
“Ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, Tobias Theo called the final stretch:
“A state of pure pressure.”
The chaotic final weeks saw multiple teams competing across overlapping events, highlighting structural issues in the qualification process.
What This Means for IEM Cologne 2026
FaZe Clan — Miss the Major despite last-minute push
BIG — Secure qualification and momentum
SINNERS — Achieve historic first Major appearance
FaZe’s absence will be one of the biggest storylines heading into Cologne, marking a rare Major without one of Counter-Strike’s most iconic organizations.
