Falcons Begin karrigan Era With Solid Win Over K27 at PGL Astana 2026
HLTV reported that Team Falcons opened their PGL Astana 2026 campaign with a 2-0 win over K27 in the first official match of Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s new chapter with the Saudi-backed organization.
The series marked the highly anticipated debut of Finn Andersen after his recent move from FaZe Clan to Falcons, a transfer that instantly became one of the biggest roster changes of the 2026 season. Falcons entered Astana under pressure after months of inconsistency despite assembling a star-studded lineup featuring Nikola Kovač, Ilya Osipov, René Madsen, and rising talent Maksim Lukin.
Falcons handled the opening map, Dust2, comfortably after K27 selected it in the veto. The international squad quickly established control and cruised to a 13-5 victory, powered by strong performances from m0NESY and kyousuke. The CIS side managed to show more resistance on Ancient, but Falcons still closed the map 13-11 to secure the sweep and move into the 1-0 pool of the Swiss stage.
Although much of the spotlight was on karrigan’s first appearance, the veteran in-game leader mainly focused on stabilizing the team’s structure while his stars delivered the firepower. m0NESY finished the series with a 1.56 rating, while kyousuke also impressed in key moments throughout both maps.
K27, meanwhile, showed flashes of potential despite the defeat. Daniil “qw1nk1” Kabilov stood out individually and ended the series as the highest-rated player on the server with a 1.58 rating, repeatedly keeping his team competitive during the closer moments on Ancient.
The victory represents an important first step for Falcons after major internal changes earlier this spring. The organization replaced former in-game leader Damjan “kyxsan” Stoilkovski with karrigan in hopes of finally turning their expensive roster into a consistent title contender again. Falcons have not lifted a trophy since winning PGL Bucharest 2025, and the arrival of one of Counter-Strike’s most accomplished leaders is viewed as a long-term solution to the team’s tactical instability.
Ahead of the tournament, karrigan admitted that joining Falcons represented a completely new challenge after his long and successful period with FaZe. The Danish veteran said he was motivated by the opportunity to build another elite roster and believed the project still had championship potential despite recent disappointments.
Expectations around the new-look Falcons were already high before the event began. karrigan even became the most-selected player in HLTV Fantasy ahead of Astana, largely because fans anticipated an immediate boost from his leadership and experience.
Falcons will now continue their Swiss stage run in the 1-0 bracket as they look to build momentum around their rebuilt core, while K27 drop to the elimination side after failing to capitalize on several promising stretches against one of the tournament favorites.
