FACEIT Expands CS2 Map Pool to 8 Maps in Season 8 – Cache, Train, and Vertigo in Community Vote

FACEIT Season 8 is set to bring a major update to Counter-Strike 2 matchmaking, as the platform confirms it will expand its map pool from seven to eight maps. The change will go live on April 22, 2026, alongside a soft Elo reset and placement matches.

For the first time, FACEIT is allowing the community to decide which map gets added.

FACEIT Map Vote: Cache, Train, or Vertigo?

The new map will be selected through a community vote, with three options shortlisted by the top 1,000 highest-Elo players:

Cache

Train

Vertigo

Voting is open until April 15 (17:00 CEST).

Unlike traditional map pool updates, the selected map will be optional, meaning players can disable it in matchmaking settings.

Why this matters for CS2 players

First-ever community-driven map pool change on FACEIT

More variety without forcing unwanted maps

Potential testing ground for future competitive maps

FACEIT Season 8 Changes: Elo Reset and Placement Matches

Season 8 isn’t just about maps — FACEIT is also rolling out a major ranking system update.

Key changes:

Soft Elo reset for all players

10 placement matches required

Elo hidden until placements are completed

FACEIT says this system aims to:

Reduce rating inflation at high Elo

Rebalance inactive accounts

Reflect current player performance more accurately

The result? Expect chaotic and unpredictable matchmaking at the start of the season.

Cache, Train, or Vertigo: Which Map Has the Edge?

Each map in the vote represents a different direction for CS2’s competitive future.

Cache – The Community Favorite

Cache remains one of the most requested maps in CS history. Its CS2 remake (2025) reignited interest, and reports of Valve contacting creator FMPONE fueled speculation about a return to the official pool.

Train – Recently Removed from Active Duty

Train has had a turbulent run:

Returned in 2025, replacing Vertigo

Removed again in January 2026 in favor of Anubis

Some teams still struggle with it. As Dan “MAJ3R” noted:

“The first goal is to fix Train in the bootcamp.”

Vertigo – The Divisive Pick

Vertigo has long split opinion between pros and fans. Still, it has had strong backing at the top level.

As Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken previously said:

“Our whole thing was to have Vertigo ready for the Major.”

CS2 Map Pool Changes: A Constant Evolution

The FACEIT update comes amid ongoing shifts in the official CS2 map pool:

2025: Train replaced Vertigo

Mid-2025: Overpass returned

2026: Anubis replaced Train

This constant rotation highlights one thing:
👉 The CS2 map meta is far from stable

FACEIT’s decision to introduce an optional eighth map could be a safer way to experiment without disrupting competitive balance.

What to Expect from FACEIT Season 8

Season 8 could become one of the most impactful updates in FACEIT history:

New map added via community vote

Major Elo recalibration

Increased matchmaking volatility

With all changes launching at once, players should expect a completely reshaped competitive experience in CS2.
