Unudelger “controlez” Baasanjargal Officially Leaves The MongolZ After Stand-In Tenure

Mongolian Counter-Strike 2 outfit The MongolZ have announced the departure of veteran rifler Unudelger “controlez” Baasanjargal, bringing to a close his temporary stint with the team’s active roster. The news was shared via the organisation’s official social media channels on December 27, 2025, following the conclusion of their campaign at the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 — an event that marked controlez’s final competitive appearance for the club.

At 28 years old, controlez had stepped in as a stand-in earlier in the competitive season when The MongolZ found themselves short-handed after the benching of star rifler Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold. With Senzu unavailable, the team opted to recruit controlez on a temporary basis beginning in late October 2025 to stabilise their lineup and maintain international competitiveness.

In its farewell message the organisation thanked controlez for his contributions:

“You stepped in. You delivered. Thank you for the energy, the laughs, and the impact. One heck of a stand-in. Respect always.”

A Stand-In That Became an Unexpected Anchor

Although initially brought in as an emergency replacement, controlez quickly became a key figure for The MongolZ across several major events. According to available statistics, he posted an above-average 1.05 rating overall, outperforming expectations for a last-minute addition to the roster. During Stage 3 of the Budapest Major, he excelled with an even stronger 1.23 rating, highlighting his ability to adapt to a new lineup in high-pressure settings.

Under his tenure, The MongolZ reached the playoffs at two of their three international outings: Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Chengdu 2025 and the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025. Although the team failed to secure a trophy, these results were widely regarded as respectable given the disrupted roster situation and the challenges of integrating a stand-in on short notice.

Across his three events with the squad, The MongolZ placed as follows:

  • IEM Chengdu 2025 — 5th–6th place

  • BLAST Rivals Fall 2025 — 7th–8th place

  • StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 — 5th–8th place

While not headline-grabbing results, the consistency of playoff appearances reinforced controlez’s positive impact during his short run.

Historic and Career Context

Controlez is no stranger to the Mongolian CS:GO and CS2 scene. He first appeared under The MongolZ banner in 2017 and later made his first Major appearance earlier in 2025 with Chinggis Warriors, another Mongolian organisation. His subsequent Major participation with The MongolZ marked his second appearance on the biggest stage of Counter-Strike competition.

Despite this exposure, he had not secured a secure long-term contract with a top tier organisation after his latest stand-in role concluded. As of the announcement, controlez is currently unattached to any active roster, leaving his plans for 2026 open and yet to be publicly confirmed.

It remains unclear whether he may re-join Chinggis Warriors, explore new opportunities within the Mongolian CS scene, or potentially seek a role with another international squad.

Impact on The MongolZ and Roster Outlook

With controlez’s departure, The MongolZ are once again down to four active players under head coach Erdenedalai “maaRaa” Bayanbat. The organisation has several options to consider for the vacant fifth spot, including:

  • Promoting academy or regional talent such as Anarbileg “cobrazera” Uuganbayar, a promising young player in the Mongolian competitive circuit.

  • Potentially recalling Senzu, whose benching earlier in the season opened the door for controlez’s arrival. Community speculation has grown around the possibility of a Senzu return, as fans consider whether the star rifler might re-establish himself in The MongolZ’s main lineup.

The current core roster without a fifth player consists of:

  • Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren

  • Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold

  • Ayush “mzinho” Batbold

  • Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch

  • Coach: Erdenedalai “maaRaa” Bayanbat

Head coach maaRaa will likely face a critical winter period of strategic decision-making as The MongolZ aim to refine their roster ahead of the 2026 season, potentially scouting both internal talent and external free agents to rebuild competitive strength.

Community Reactions and Future Speculation

Social media and fan forums have reacted strongly to controlez’s exit, with many praising his adaptability and praising his performances under pressure. Some fans have expressed hope that Senzu might return to the starting five, while others recommend looking toward emerging Mongolian talent from the region’s academy systems.

The departure of controlez highlights broader challenges in the professional CS2 scene around roster stability, the management of “stand-in” contracts, and how teams adapt to sudden changes during the season. As The MongolZ and controlez both look ahead to the new year, their respective decisions over player recruitment and career moves will likely draw close attention from the ESL Pro Tour and the wider CS2 community.
