beastik: “Major pressure got to us” as SINNERS stumble in Cologne qualification race

SINNERS captain Sebastian “beastik” Daňo has admitted that the team struggled to handle the pressure of IEM Cologne Major qualification, following their quarter-final elimination at Roman Imperium Cup VII.

Despite entering the tournament with strong momentum after winning BC.Game Masters, SINNERS were unable to maintain their form and fell to BetBoom in a decisive playoff match.

“The pressure of thinking about the Major got to us,” beastik said in a post-match interview.

According to the in-game leader, the team’s mentality shifted compared to their previous event, where they played freely without focusing on rankings or qualification scenarios.

From title contenders to missed opportunity

Just days before their exit in Portugal, SINNERS had secured one of their biggest recent victories by winning BC.Game Masters Season 1, defeating BIG 2-1 in the grand final.

That run included impressive wins over top-tier opposition such as G2 and BetBoom, significantly boosting SINNERS’ position in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) ahead of the April 6 cutoff for Cologne invites.

At that event, AWPer Mădălin-Andrei “MoDo” Mirea emphasized a simple approach:

“Just beat everybody, play our game, and just enjoy it.”

However, that relaxed mindset did not carry over into Roman Imperium Cup, where the stakes were considerably higher.

Crucial rounds slip away against BetBoom

The loss to BetBoom came down to missed clutch situations, which beastik highlighted as the turning point of the series.

Key moments included:

A lost 1v2 on Nuke

A failed 1v3 in Mirage overtime

beastik acknowledged that failing to convert such rounds often determines the outcome at this level:

If you don’t win these situations, you don’t deserve to win the match.

BetBoom surge while rivals falter

While SINNERS exited early, BetBoom capitalized on the opportunity and went on to win Roman Imperium Cup VII, defeating BESTIA 2-0 in the grand final.

Their run included a crucial victory over G2 and significantly improved their standing in the Cologne Major race.

This result is particularly notable given that BetBoom played with stand-ins due to visa issues, making their tournament win even more impactful in the qualification battle.

Cologne Major race reaches boiling point

With the VRS cutoff approaching, the race for IEM Cologne 2026 spots has become increasingly volatile.

Teams like:

BIG

HEROIC

Alliance

FaZe

BetBoom

SINNERS

are all directly affected by the final set of LAN results.

BIG, for example, followed up their BC.Game Masters grand final appearance with an early group-stage exit in Portugal, while other contenders also failed to capitalize on their opportunities.

SINNERS leave fate to the rankings

Following their elimination, SINNERS have opted not to attend additional last-chance events before the cutoff. Instead, they will rely on existing results and hope other outcomes fall in their favor.

beastik summed up the situation candidly:

“We leave it to the gods.”

Pressure becomes the deciding factor

SINNERS’ recent performances highlight a recurring theme in top-level Counter-Strike: the difference between winning and losing is often mental rather than mechanical.

While the team has proven it can compete with strong opposition on LAN, their latest result shows that handling pressure in crucial qualification moments remains a key challenge.

As the Cologne Major cutoff approaches, SINNERS’ fate now depends not only on their own results—but on how the rest of the scene unfolds.
