Aurora Defeat The MongolZ to Reach PGL Astana 2026 Playoffs After Late-Series Comeback

Aurora survive scare from The MongolZ as woxic and XANTARES lead playoff push at PGL Astana 2026

Aurora secured a spot in the PGL Astana 2026 playoffs after defeating The MongolZ 2-0 in a dramatic elimination-stage series that showcased clutch performances from Özgür “woxic” Eker and Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş. The Turkish side closed out Overpass 13-11 before sealing Mirage 13-10 to advance to the quarter-finals.

The victory continues Aurora’s strong upward trajectory in Counter-Strike 2 following recent roster changes, while The MongolZ once again fell short in crucial late rounds despite standout individual performances.

Aurora Come Back on Overpass After Huge mzinho Performance

The series opened on Overpass, where The MongolZ looked in complete control early. The Mongolian squad raced to a 7-2 lead on the CT side behind an explosive start from Ayush “mzinho” Batbold, who dominated the map with 30 kills and massive opening-round impact.

Despite the slow start, Aurora stayed alive thanks to multiple clutch rounds from woxic. The veteran AWPer secured two critical 1v1s before halftime and later converted a 1v2 after the side switch to swing momentum back in Aurora’s favor.

Aurora eventually completed the comeback to steal their own map pick 13-11, with XANTARES delivering a decisive late-round triple kill and Caner “soulfly” Kesici adding several key defensive rounds.

Mirage Collapse Ends The MongolZ’s PGL Astana Run

Mirage followed a similar script. Aurora established early control, but The MongolZ fought back after winning both pistol rounds and eventually turned an 8-3 deficit into a 10-9 lead.

Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold became the driving force behind the comeback attempt, finishing Mirage with a dominant 1.72 rating. However, Aurora once again proved stronger in full-buy situations and closed the map 13-10 to secure the series sweep.

The result eliminates The MongolZ from PGL Astana 2026 and sends Aurora into the playoff bracket as one of the tournament’s most dangerous dark horses.

woxic Reveals Aurora Added Sports Psychologist Before PGL Astana

Following the victory, woxic revealed that Aurora introduced a new sports psychologist ahead of the event in an effort to improve the team’s mental consistency during high-pressure matches.

Speaking in a post-match interview with James “BanKs” Banks, woxic also explained Aurora’s decision to pick Overpass against The MongolZ:

“Last 22 matches, they choose to ban Overpass 18 times. If we lost this, it would have been a mental issue, on their worst map. But God wanted it this way.”

The comments highlight Aurora’s growing confidence as the team continues adapting to its updated roster.

soulfly Continues Strong Start With Aurora

Aurora’s recent improvement has coincided with the arrival of soulfly, who joined the roster earlier this year. The young rifler has quickly become an important piece of the lineup and was Aurora’s highest-rated player in the series against The MongolZ with a 1.38 rating.

Earlier in the season, soulfly spoke positively about joining the roster and playing alongside XANTARES after helping Aurora reach the IEM Krakow playoffs.

The MongolZ Continue Difficult Transition After Senzu Benching

The defeat also continues a difficult period for The MongolZ following the shocking benching of Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold in late 2025. Senzu had been one of the team’s most consistent players and posted a 1.11 rating after the summer break before being removed from the active lineup.

His replacement, Anarbileg “cobrazera” Uuganbayar, previously admitted that replacing Senzu came with enormous pressure.

“I’m replacing Senzu and that kind of pressure is the hardest part.”

Despite flashes of brilliance throughout PGL Astana, The MongolZ struggled to consistently close out maps against elite opposition. According to HLTV, all five of their matches at the tournament came against eventual playoff teams, including losses to Falcons, Spirit, and Aurora.

Aurora Emerging as Serious PGL Astana Playoff Contender

With XANTARES continuing to deliver star performances, woxic finding vintage form, and soulfly adapting quickly, Aurora now look capable of challenging top-tier CS2 teams deep into the PGL Astana 2026 playoffs.

Their ability to recover from losing positions against The MongolZ may become one of the defining moments of their tournament campaign.
