Aurora Battle Past Astralis to Reach ESL Pro League Season 23 Grand Final

Aurora secured their place in the ESL Pro League Season 23 grand final after defeating Astralis 2–1 in a hard-fought semi-final series. The Turkish-led squad recovered from an early setback on Nuke before dominating Dust2 and closing the match on Inferno to complete the comeback victory.

The win marks Aurora’s first grand final appearance since PGL Masters Bucharest in October, highlighting the team’s resurgence during the ESL Pro League playoffs.

Aurora will now face Natus Vincere in the best-of-five championship match, while Astralis drop to the third-place decider against FUT.

Astralis strike first on Nuke

The series began on Nuke, Astralis’ map pick, where the Danish-led international lineup managed to edge out Aurora in a tight contest.

Aurora opened the map with a highlight moment from Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın, who delivered a quad kill with Dual Elites to secure the pistol round. Despite the strong start, the remainder of the half proved closely contested, with Astralis eventually taking a narrow lead at halftime thanks to consistent T-side rounds.

Aurora fought back after the break, turning a 5–7 deficit into a 9–7 advantage following another pistol victory. However, Astralis responded with a series of crucial rounds and managed to disrupt Aurora’s economy late in the game. At 11–11, Astralis stole a critical round with upgraded pistols and rode that momentum to close out the map 13–11, taking the early lead in the series.

Aurora dominate Dust2 to equalize

Aurora answered emphatically on Dust2, their own map pick. From the opening rounds, the Turkish squad dictated the pace of the game and quickly built a commanding lead.

Their aggressive T-side approach dismantled Astralis’ defenses, allowing Aurora to storm to a 10–2 halftime advantage. Astralis struggled to stabilize their economy and never managed to mount a comeback.

Aurora completed the map in convincing fashion, winning Dust2 13–2 and tying the series at 1–1.

Inferno comeback seals the series

With the series tied, the decisive map moved to Inferno. Aurora again gained early momentum and carried a 7–5 lead into halftime, setting the stage for a tense second half.

Astralis attempted to recover after the side switch, but Aurora maintained control in the crucial late rounds. Consistent trading and well-timed executes allowed them to close the map 13–10, securing the 2–1 series victory.

Aurora continue strong EPL playoff run

Aurora’s semi-final triumph caps off a strong run through the ESL Pro League Season 23 playoffs. Prior to facing Astralis, the team defeated Legacy 2–1 to advance from the quarter-final stage, overcoming momentum swings and long round streaks to secure the series.

The victory over Astralis not only sends Aurora to the grand final but also represents the team’s deepest run of 2026 so far, after failing to reach a semi-final earlier in the season.

What comes next

With the semi-finals concluded, the final day of ESL Pro League Season 23 will feature two decisive matches:

  • Grand Final: NAVI vs Aurora (BO5)

  • Third-place match: FUT vs Astralis

Aurora now have the opportunity to claim one of the most significant titles of the CS2 season, while NAVI stand between them and the ESL Pro League trophy.
