Introducing Rating 3.0

Introducing Rating 3.0
HLTV has unveiled Rating 3.0, its most significant overhaul of the performance rating system since Rating 2.0 in 2017. The implementation is now live across all Counter‑Strike 2 matches, featuring a design refresh and a foundational shift in how player impact is measured.
What’s New?
Rating 3.0 is built on two core components:
Updated version of Rating 2.1, now enhanced with economic context.
A brand-new Round Swing metric.
The revised system divides the rating into six subcomponents, up from five in Rating 2.1:
-
Kills
-
Damage
-
Survival
-
KAST (Kill, Assist, Survive, or Trade)
-
Multi-Kills
-
Round Swing — a dynamic new measure tracking how a player's kill shifts their team’s win probability, accounting for map, side, and economy.
Moreover, Impact (used previously) has been replaced by the combination of Round Swing and Multi-Kill ratings.
As before, Rating 3.0 remains centered around an average of 1.00 across a CS2 event, maintaining continuity with the system's long-standing baseline.
Where You’ll See It
The player statistics pages have been redesigned to accommodate Rating 3.0. Highlights include:
-
A refreshed visual layout displaying T-side and CT-side ratings alongside the overall Rating 3.0.
-
Player pages now feature a splash of team color behind the player’s body shot for improved clarity.
Context & Background: How We Got Here
Rating 2.1 Recap
In October 2024, HLTV introduced Rating 2.1, a recalibration of Rating 2.0 tailored for Counter‑Strike 2:
-
Adjusted statistical averages to align with CS2’s MR12 format and 26-damage assists.
-
Reduced credit for mere survivals (especially in lost rounds), and balanced weight across the five subratings.
The update was an interim fix, laying the groundwork for a more significant overhaul in future — what would become Rating 3.0
HLTV described Rating 2.1 as a bridge update, explicitly stating that the full next-generation system (Rating 3.0) was still under development.
Final Thoughts
Rating 3.0 represents a thoughtful advancement in measuring player performance by integrating economic factors and adding nuance to how impactful plays are quantified. By introducing Round Swing, HLTV elevates the rating’s realism and strategic depth.
